The Night Agent has always been a show about conspiracies, betrayals and high-stakes missions, and that's what holds Gabriel Basso’s Peter Sutherland and Luciane Buchanan’s Rose Larkin together. The two will finally be together again in Season 4, after they had to part ways in Season 3.

Once again, fans will have the much-anticipated chance to see Rose in The Night Agent Season 4, and her reunion with Peter will certainly not just be nostalgic but necessary. Without Rose, the series took the opportunity to delve into Peter's life without the emotional support she provided, leaving behind unhealed emotions and lingering questions.

With Rose's return, the writers have a chance to resolve one of the show's most important relationships, and it's safe to say that they're doing just that as Netflix nears the end of the series with its fourth season. The reunion is more than just a show of togetherness; it's about the importance that it will play in Peter's final arc.

Peter's last mission could be his most emotional one yet

The Night Agent hasn't been lacking in action, but Season 4 has a new challenge: providing Peter with a satisfying conclusion. Showrunner Shawn Ryan has announced that the final episodes of the series will be a wrap on Peter's story arc, adding more gravitas to all the decisions made.

It is Rose's return that makes all the difference. The theme of duty over happiness has been repeated so many times throughout the series that Peter has learned to take it for granted. Rose, on the other hand, is a representation of a life that does not involve danger or government secrets. Her return in the final season naturally reopens that conflict.

It is yet to be seen whether the showrunners will be able to make Peter and Rose’s reunion a long-awaited reward for the fans, or whether they will have to face some new complications. Both of them have been on different paths since Season 1, and the last season could see them have to face the consequences of that distance between them.

The conspiracies and action will still be significant, but for the first time in years, Peter's feelings may be as much a part of the mission as his actions in The Night Agent Season 4.

The Night Agent Season 4 might deliver the ending fans wanted

The payoff is more significant than the high-stakes action in The Night Agent's final season, thanks to Peter and Rose's reunion. After years of being separated, facing assassins and conspiracies, their affair finally becomes the main focus as the series culminates.

Their reunion isn't a sure bet for a happy ending but it does give the show its biggest remaining question: Can Peter have a life outside of being a Night Agent? No matter how they make peace or if they go through one last impossible hurdle, reuniting Peter and Rose in the final season makes the story very personal.

Saving the world might be a thrill, but the biggest job for the show so far may be to deliver a satisfying ending to the story of Peter and Rose.
