The Night They Vanished: Gabrielle Creevy and Callum Scott steal the spotlight in new BBC thriller

BBC Studios and Channel 4's upcoming series The Night They Vanished is adapted from Vanessa Savage's 2022 romantic thriller. The six-part romantic thriller series is produced by BBC Studios' CliffEdge Entertainment in association with Channel 4. It is adapted by Angharad Elen and Hannah Daniel and directed by Geraint Todd.

According to Deadline, Callum Scott Howells and Gabrielle Creevy are set to play the leading roles in The Night They Vanished. Creevy, who is known for her projects like Three Women and In My Skin, will play Anna in the romantic thriller.

According to Channel 4, the story follows Anna, who has carved out a different life away from her family in Cardiff. She is described as fierce, funny, and someone who is protective of the life she's built far away from her home. Anna's world is shaken when she finds her family home on a true crime website as the scene of a horrific crime. When Anna tries to contact her family, she realizes they have disappeared. Scott Howells (It's a Sin and Madfabulous) plays a blind date, Cai, who runs the true-crime site.

The series is pre-bought by Polly Scates, Head of Acquisitions for Channel 4, and Felix Jones, Acquisition Manager. Sarah Creasey, Sathe Elen, and Branwen Williams serve as the executive producers. Sian Elen John is the producer.

The Night They Vanished is adapted from Vanessa Savage's romantic thriller bearing the same title. The story follows Anna, who had cut ties with her family years ago due to a tragedy. However, Anna's life takes an ugly turn when she finds out that her family home is listed on a true-crime website run by Cai. However, Cai assures her that he did not post the listing. Even the police say it's a hoax.

However, when Anna tries to contact her family, she finds out that they have disappeared. Anna is then forced to return to her hometown, a remote coastal village in South Wales. While she desperately tries to find out what happened to her family, her scary past is unveiled.

The Night They Vanished does not have a release date yet. It will air on Channel 4 in the UK. Filming for the series has begun in Wales. According to a report by the South Wales Argus, the filming mainly took place in and around Magor. Magor Square was turned to resemble a Welsh seaside town.

Cast members include:

• Tamzin Outhwaite will play Jo, Anna's stepmother
• Steffan Rhodri will play Idris, Anna's father
• Other cast members are Jack Quick, Andrew Lennon, Bella Shewan, Callum Hymers, and Matthew Gravelle.

Speaking to Deadline, Creevy describes her character Anna as loyal, sharp, and as someone carrying her trauma like armour. She said,

"The moment her past comes roaring back, she’s forced into a nightmare she thought she’d escaped. It’s a gift of a role, and I can’t wait for audiences to unravel the truth with her.”

Scott Howells describes his character Cai as charming, complex, and mysterious. He added,

"He could be the love of Anna’s life… or the centre of a terrifying conspiracy. Playing someone who keeps you guessing is exactly the kind of challenge I love.”
