After an intense turn of events at the end of the first season, many questions have been left unanswered, which can be expected to be explored in The Paper Season 2. It cannot be denied that the series perfectly shapes the characters and the intertwining storylines.

These elements keep the viewers hooked throughout. As we get closer to the release of the second season, which is set to drop on September 9, here is everything that you need to remember before you step into the world of The Paper once again.

Before The Paper Season 2 drops, here’s what you need to remember

The primary focus of the first season of the series has been on making Toledo Truth Teller regain its glory, which it has lost over the years. With Ned Sampson’s arrival, things slowly begin to change. Though Ned’s path to take Toledo Truth Teller to a better place has not been easy.

He came across multiple challenges, even from his own team members, as he tried to make sure the newspaper could do better. The beginning of the first season also sheds light on the arrival of the documentary filming crew, who try to capture how the company works. Soon, Ned also realizes the situation that the newspaper is in and begins to think of ways in which he can bring it back to its glory.

As the season progresses, Ned’s dynamic with the team shifts, especially with Mare. The focus is also on the Ohio Journalism Awards. Though the Toledo Truth Teller initially arrives at the award ceremony without much significance, soon, the end of the award function completely changes the trajectory of the newspaper. The newspaper gets Outstanding Print Coverage, Best New Game, and Best News Story awards, which shifts the dynamic for the newspaper and sets the stage for the new path of the newspaper in The Paper Season 2.

It will be intriguing to see how The Paper Season 2 moves forward with this aspect of the storyline, considering that changing the Toledo Truth Teller’s integrity has been a crucial propelling factor in the storyline in the first season. Ned and Mare’s dynamic has been an intriguing factor in the first season. While speaking to the camera crew in the first season, both of them have indicated their growing fondness for each other.

As the season progressed, Ned and Mare’s dynamic took a turn, especially at the end of the first season when Ned speaks to Mare about how she deserved the award for Best News Story. Though Ned and Mare’s bond has grown through the first season, when Ned eventually arrives at Mare’s hotel room to thank her, they kiss, which sets the stage for their relationship to be explored in The Paper Season 2.

Though Ned’s feelings are quite obvious towards Mare, viewers are also able to understand that Mare also shares the same feelings. Yet another significant storyline that takes place in the first season and can be expected to be explored on a deeper level in The Paper Season 2 is Oscar’s character development. Oscar had a distinct dynamic with the camera crew.

At the end of the first season, he appreciates the camera crew in an unexpected manner, depicting that he has welcomed them wholeheartedly. Hence, the second season can be expected to explore more of Oscar’s dynamic with them. A hilarious turn of events at the end of the first season is how Esmeralda tries her best to take the spotlight. Even when Ned tries to give his speech, she pretends to faint to get attention.

On the other hand, Ken’s desire to snatch credit also adds a hilarious touch. Hence, the second season can be expected to bring in more of Ken and Esmeralda’s hilarious actions. Throughout the first season of the series, Nicole and Detrick’s dynamic has also been quite intriguing, besides Ned and Mare’s growing bond. Though Detrick tried his best to make Nicole understand his deep feelings towards her, Nicole remains averse. As the storyline progresses, Nicole eventually agrees to date Detrick.

However, Nicole is not eager to be monogamous with Detrick, which eventually leads to Detrick ending things with her. At the end of the first season, Nicole realizes the mistake she has made by letting Detrick go. The Paper Season 2 can be expected to explore the future of Detrick and Nicole’s relationship, as Nicole has realized her fault.
