The Map of Longing ending brings forth a heartwarming storyline that depicts the emotional depth of the storyline. The heart of the storyline lies in the struggles that the characters go through to accept themselves and move on with their lives despite the struggles.

The ending resonates deeply, especially through Greta and Will’s actions. The Map of Longing ending depicts how deeply connected she is with her sister and the eventual path that she needs to tread.

Greta’s final choice in The Map of Longing ending

The Map of Longing episode 6 starts with Greta and Will opening Lucy’s last box of the game. From the time that Greta came to know about the game that Lucy left for her with Will, the two of them have opened several boxes and received the letters that Lucy left for Greta so that she can move on with her life despite the hopelessness that she feels because of Lucy’s death.

Greta finds a huge sum of money from the last box that Lucy left for her so that she can start her adventure. Greta urges Will to accompany her on her adventure in Europe, to which Will agrees. Lucy also left a last letter for each of them, which she wanted them to read when they were at “peace” with her, “with life,” and with themselves. While Greta returns to the house, her grandpa waits for them. Greta also introduces Will, but her grandpa asks Will to take him to the gas station.

After returning, Greta’s grandpa tells her that Will’s head is a “complete mess”. The Map of Longing Episode 6 continues with Greta preparing for her trip while also messaging Will, asking him about his court hearing. However, Will does not send any reply to her messages. Greta gets suspicious and arrives at the restaurant where Will works to ask him about the situation.

There she finds Will’s lawyer, who informs her that everything went right and Will will be able to avoid jail if he does not get into any trouble for the next three years. Though Greta tries to talk to Will, he tells her that they should talk the next day. It can be understood that Will’s guilt for his actions, which caused Juan’s death, is still haunting him. The Map of Longing Episode 6 continues with Greta understanding the emotional state that Will is in.

Back at home, when her mother asks her to give her a haircut, she opens up about the trip and the money she received from Lucy. She then gives her mother the letter that Lucy left for her. Greta’s dynamic with Will also takes a turn when Greta tries to ask Will about his emotions, but gets avoided. She then decides to read Lucy’s last letter and urges Will to do the same.

However, Will tells her that he has not yet been able to reach the emotional state to read the letter. In the letter, Lucy spoke about how proud she is of Greta and also the regret she has, as she will not be able to see Greta moving forward with her life. After Greta finishes the letter, the imaginary version of Lucy also bids her farewell, indicating that Greta is finally able to accept Lucy’s death and is ready to move on.

The next day, Greta decides to speak to Will about his emotional state. Though Will tries to evade the discussion, Greta tells him that he should not take refuge in her anymore and face his guilt about Juan. However, Will is not ready to face his demons, causing the two of them to have an altercation that leads Greta to leave for the trip alone. The Map of Longing ending continues with Greta giving the last letters from Lucy to her grandpa and father as well, so that they can get the closure they needed, and rushing off to her new journey.

While Greta continues with her trip, Will gets more and more tormented by his guilt until he finally decides to return to his parents’ house. As days pass by, Will is slowly able to reconcile with his parents, while Greta’s trip also helps her with her grief. She also received an update from the University. At the very end of this episode, Will decides to meet his ex-girlfriend and ask for her forgiveness for his actions.

Greta's choice eventually pushes him to also arrive at Juan’s parents’ house and ask for their forgiveness for his actions. Though they are heartbroken because of their son’s death, they decide to forgive Will. He then visits Juan’s grave. Greta is also able to bid farewell to the imaginary version of Lucy, indicating that she has finally moved on from the guilt. Greta finally arrives at Vienna, while Will finally musters up the courage to read Lucy’s final letter.

In the letter, Lucy thanks Will for giving Greta the game and helping her through it. She also tells him to believe that he is a good person. He then decides to fight for his love for Greta. While Greta arrives to see the painting of Gustav Klimt, she finds Will standing right by her.

The two of them share a heartwarming moment, bringing forth an emotional note to the storyline. Through the series, the aspect of grief and the manner in which Will and Greta navigate through it resonate deeply with the viewers. Accepting such a loss is not an easy task; through Lucy’s game, Greta is able to accept her death and find herself again.
