The only Scrubs Season 2 cast guide you need before the new chapter

The halls of Sacred Heart Hospital are set to welcome viewers back, and Scrubs Season 2 promises another dose of chaotic friendships, complicated patients, and the signature humor that made the medical comedy a fan favorite.

ABC's medical sitcom is gearing up to return with its second season, with returning stars Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke.

According to Radio Times, two stars have exited the sitcom and will not appear in Season 2, namely X Mayo as Nurse Pippa Raymond and Joel Kim Booster as Dr. Park.

But as the next chapter gets ready to unfold, many familiar faces are expected to remain at the heart of the story, bringing back the doctors, nurses, and hospital staff viewers have come to know.

Scrubs Season 2 cast: Here are the returning stars

Like the first season, Zach Braff will lead the Scrubs Season 2 cast as Dr. John "J.D." Dorian. The second outing of ABC's medical sitcom will be especially challenging for J.D. as he navigates the deteriorating health of his mentor, Dr. Perry Cox, who was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease causing renal kidney failure in the Season 1 finale. Season 2 will feature an interesting role reversal as J.D. steps up to take care of his teacher.

Donald Faison is the next returning star in the Scrubs Season 2 cast as Dr. Chris Turk. Turk was revealed to be Sacred Heart's Chief of Surgery. The upcoming season will see Turk continue his leadership role as Chief of Surgery, working through professional burnout while maintaining his core bond with J.D. and his marriage to Carla.

Sarah Chalke is also among the main returning stars in Season 2 as internal medicine doctor Elliot Reid. While fans were anticipating a quick reunion between J.D. and Elliot, the former couple remained separated in Scrubs Season 1, despite working together at Sacred Heart. While the Season 1 finale introduced a new potential love interest for J.D., it remains to be seen whether he reignites his romance with Elliot.

Lastly, Ava Bunn, who appeared in the recurring role of Dr. Samantha "Sam" Tosh, was promoted to a series regular in Scrubs Season 2. Sam was introduced as the main medical intern under J.D., who used social media to solve complex cases. However, she managed to wrap up a rocky first year and will proceed into the second chapter of her career in Season 2.

2) David Gridley as Dr. Blake Lewis, a loner medical intern under J.D.

3) Layla Mohammadi as Dr. Amara Hadi, a surgical intern under Turk

4) Amanda Morrow as Dr. Dashana Trainor, a surgical intern under Turk

5) John C. McGinley as Dr. Perry Cox, Sacred Heart's previous Chief of Medicine

6) Judy Reyes as Nurse Carla Espinosa, head nurse at Sacred Heart and Turk's wife

7) Neil Flynn as The Chief Custodian of the Joint Commission / Glen Matthews / "Janitor"

Additionally, Rachel Bilson will also reprise her character as Charlie in Scrubs Season 2. Charlie was introduced as a potential love interest for J.D. in the Season 1 finale and will likely appear in an expanded capacity in Season 2.

Tamera Mowry-Housley joins Scrubs Season 2

According to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, Tamera Mowry-Housley (Sister, Sister) has been cast in Season 2 as Dr. Steffie, a pediatric doctor. Dr. Steffie's arrival will largely affect Dr. Sam, as Steffie will try to persuade Sam to choose pediatrics as her specialty.

Tamera Mowry-Housley will reportedly appear as a guest and debut in Episode 2.
