She is on her toes throughout the season, as she tries to protect her fellow Slow Horses. Meanwhile, Roddy is doing well personally, as he is dating a woman named Tara. But things soon took a dark turn, as Tara was revealed to be a part of something sinister.Hiba Bennani as Tara in the British series | Image Via: Apple TV/www.apple.com/tv-pr/originals/slow-horsesIt turned out that Tara used Roddy to hack into the MI5 database, but she was caught. Under questioning, she informed the Slow Horses and MI5 Director General Claude Whelan that she was coerced by a suspicious Libyan group to honeytrap Roddy and enter a code into Roddy's laptop. Tara also informed them that she needed to meet the group at Piccadilly Circus after entering the code. Thus, the Slough House members and Whelan (who is also looking to shut down Slough House) formulated the plan to trap the Libyan group using Tara. Meanwhile, Roddy, Shirley, David, and Standish discovered that Tara was a part of the group. As David called River to tell him about the trap, the code Tara handed over was a virus, which triggered a power outage at Regent's Park. This outage allowed Tara to join her co-conspirators and hold the Libyan embassy hostage and demand a £100 million ransom. They threatened to blow up a place of worship in case the British government refused to meet their demands. Diana Taverner authorizes the payment of ransom. Despite receiving the ransom, two members of the group, Kamal and Farouk, planned to attack the secret location.Catherine Standish and Jackson Lamb manage to catch Tara without any collateral damage. Lamb also realized that the multi-faith worshipping center, which is the venue for a memorial service for the Abbotsfield massacre at the start of this season, was Farouk and Kamal's target. He sent Coe, Shirley, and River to stop the attack. The three agents evacuated the venue and killed the two terrorists. The group initially celebrated the win, but River realized that Sami, one member of the Libyan terror group, was free. The group realized that Whelan was the target, as his policy resulted in Libya's collapse. River saved Whelan's life and killed Sami, but that didn't stop the MI5 Director General from scheming to shut down Slough House. But Lamb turned the tables on Whelan, as the Slough House boss blackmailed Whelan with a tape that could unleash a scandal. Thus, Claude Whelan resigned, and Diana Taverner replaced him. Roddy is also freed, after acquittal.Kristin Scott Thomas's Diana Taverner | Image Via: Apple TV/www.apple.com/tv-pr/originals/slow-horsesBut all is not good, as Slow Horses Season 5 ended on a bittersweet note. River is disappointed that his promotion has been denied as he was placed at Slough House indefinitely. Thus, the season 5 finale ensures that Shirley and River are still part of the group as Slow Horses Season 6 returns to Apple TV on September 16, 2026.
