The story continues in The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3, as Maggie and Negan are trying to leave their troubled history behind and build a successful community in post-apocalyptic Manhattan. However, it's not as simple as it looks.

They face new problems and chaos that constantly test whether they can actually move forward after the destruction. The latest episode, 6, titled "Genesis," is different because it imagines an alternate world where the zombie apocalypse never happened.

It imagines Maggie and Negan meeting in a normal Christmas-time New York, while Beth is alive and pursuing a career in singing. The episode explores how Maggie and Negan’s relationship might have developed without Glenn’s death.

Not only that, but it also shows the emotional moments between Maggie and Beth. Episode 6 of The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 once again reminds viewers that Negan still has a violent side.

A detailed recap is right below.

As explained before, The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 Episode 6 follows a version in which the walker outbreak never happened. Maggie and Negan haven't met each other, and their lives are also very different, as this version also imagines Beth alive.

Beth is shown as a musician, while Maggie is trying to keep the Greene family farm running after losing her father Hershel and brother Shawn. Another notable change in this imagined version is that Maggie is parting ways with Danny and has no son named Hershel Jr.

At the same time, Beth is concerned about Maggie and wants to take off the burden of the whole family from her shoulders. Maggie eventually considers selling the farm and starting over, but when she learns the co-op can continue without Danny’s approval, her old sense of responsibility returns.

Later, when Maggie is at a diner, she meets Negan, and the two spend time together. And this Negan is nothing like the man viewers know from the apocalypse. He works as a business consultant, has a son named Joshua, and has served prison time for attacking Alan.

As they talk, it becomes clear that they're still holding on to the past. The different reality shown in episode 6 of The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 features Negan as a simple man, but his past still contains something disturbing. It's revealed that Negan was once a physical education teacher who grew concerned about a teenage girl who was being abused.

Negan says he tried to get adults involved, but nothing changed because Alan, the man connected to the abuse, influenced the local authorities. Later, Negan learned that the young woman had died by suicide.

Years later, when Negan saw Alan, he confronted him and broke his jaw. This resulted in Negan spending two years in jail. And after returning, his anger is still fresh.

Negan tells Maggie that he's back in New York to kill Alan. Then a fortune-teller encounter adds to Maggie and Negan's unusual connection. Maggie is told that she is caught in a repeating karmic pattern and has met someone significant.

It looks like episode 6 of The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 is explaining why Maggie and Negan seem destined to keep crossing paths. It does not confirm reincarnation, but it also suggests that their relationship forces both of them to confront lessons they have avoided.

Beth is one of the key figures in episode 6 of The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3, because viewers get to see the life she lost in the original timeline. She performs in New York, sings with Maggie, and encourages her sister to choose something for herself instead of living entirely for the farm.

Maggie also influences Negan. She says that Joshua needs his father, and it ultimately leads Negan to call his son. It explains that even though he is a tough man, he's trying to be a better person.

But the progress does not last. Alan appears again, and Negan abandons the call after hearing another troubling conversation. The episode hints that Alan met his end, but the moment is left unclear.

Soon everything shifts back to the real world. Hershel then reaches out to Maggie and reveals that Negan ended Fabian's life. Not only that, but Maggie also comes to know how Dillard was attacked by the same man. As episode 6 ends, they rush to the hospital.
