The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 - Episode 6 trailer teases Beth’s return and alternate universe Maggie-Negan meeting

The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 is gearing up for a highly-awaited episode. Titled 'Genesis', Episode 6 shows Maggie and Negan in an alternative universe setting, with the trailer also teasing the return of Beth Greene. The episode is scheduled to release on August 30, 2026, on AMC and AMC+.

Episode 5 wrapped up with Negan killing Fabian in front of Renata, who thereafter threatened to arrest him. Just as viewers were left wondering what would happen to Negan, AMC dropped a surprise trailer for the upcoming episode, revealing the story will take a dramatic turn into an alternative reality.

The episode features a version of New York City where the apocalypse never happened, and people are living normal lives.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 Episode 6 trailer gives viewers a sneak peek of what to expect in the upcoming episode.

The 30-second trailer begins with Negan picking up his gun after realizing he might be attacked any moment by Renata's promised army. The scene shifts to an alternate universe where a tarot card reader tells Maggie that she has been there before, and if not in her present life, then another. Maggie is left stunned and confused by the revelation.

The camera then pans to Maggie walking through the lively streets of Manhattan. Viewers can also catch a glimpse of Beth Greene (Maggie's half-sister), who calls Maggie. The trailer then shows Maggie and Negan sitting at a coffee shop, where they shake hands. It ends with Negan introducing himself, saying,

"Nice to meet you Margaret."

The spin-off's main characters have been through a rollercoaster journey. When Negan brutally killed Glenn, Maggie wanted to take revenge for the death of her partner. However, that revenge-seeking journey led her to Manhattan. On the other hand, Negan turned ruthless and violent after losing his wife Lucille. The upcoming episode will thus explore what could happen if Maggie and Negan met each other at a different setting (alternate universe).

The series subtly hinted towards this in the previous episode, where Negan said that he and Maggie could have been good friends in another lifetime. In real time, with Negan killing Fabian, the possibility of a connection is fading away.

However, in reality, Negan killed Fabian because he threatened to kill Maggie. On the other hand, Renata feels Negan needs to be punished for his crime to maintain the law and stability in the community.

Maggie feels that it's important to maintain peace in her community as well. However, with Fabian's murder, her stance on Negan might change.

Is Beth Greene on The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 Episode 6?

Beth Greene, a fan favourite character played by Emily Kinney, died on season five of The Walking Dead, which aired in 2015. More than a decade later, Beth is returning in the spin-off series. Titled Genesis, The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 Episode 6 trailer features Beth in New York City. Since the episode is set in an alternate universe, bringing back a dead character seemed possible.

Speaking about the upcoming episode, showrunner Seth Hoffman told RadioTimes,

"“I thought, ‘One thing that fans would want to see in this spin-off is characters that maybe we haven’t seen for a long time."

He continued,

"If you were to do an alternate reality episode where the apocalypse never happened, you could invite back some characters that haven't been part of the franchise in a long time."
