Right after Young Sheldon’s release, the show became a massive hit among viewers. The show ran for seven seasons, each bringing more depth to the characters as they grew up. However, before the show ended, some of the cast members were not aware that the series was going to end with Season 7.

After Chuck Lorre, Steve Holland, and Steve Molaro sat down with the cast members after the end of Season 6, some of the cast members were completely baffled by this shocking turn of events, as the series was such a huge success. In Young Sheldon: The (Juicier-Than-Meemaw’s-Brisket) Inside Story of the Hit Comedy book, Jessica Radloff shares the details of this interview and the conversations that the cast members had when they learned that the show was coming to an end.

The Young Sheldon cast’s reactions to the shocking Zoom Call

Though some of the cast members quickly understood what the Zoom call was going to be about, it was not the case for all of them. Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord, and Annie Potts were shocked to find that they were not getting more seasons of Young Sheldon after they learned about the unexpected decision through the Zoom call. In the Jessica Radloff book, it is revealed that Raegan Revord thought that they “had another couple years”.

Raegan Revord was in complete “shock” when the news arrived. Holly Revord also added that after Raegan Revord heard the news, they “just went to their room and cried”. Annie Potts was also quite disappointed with the news during the Zoom call. Potts noted that she had “voiced what everybody else was feeling” during the announcement. According to Potts, she went “full Meemaw on them” as the news was similar to getting “thunderstruck or lightning struck” for her. Montana Jordan also added during the Zoom call that he “wasn’t expectin’ that”.

When Jordan received the news, he was in Texas. He also expected that the news could have been shared with them “in person” instead of just a Zoom call. Though he understood the reason behind choosing to do a Zoom call to relay the news of Young Sheldon not getting more seasons, an “in person” meeting would have created the opportunity for him to show his “love to them”.

Soon after Montana Jordan received the news that Young Sheldon would not be getting more seasons, he called his wife, Jenna, and said that he should “start applying to McDonald’s or something”. When Steve Holland saw Montana Jordan’s reaction to the news, it caused him to “immediately” think that Montana Jordan would be doing the spin-off.

Unlike Montana Jordan, Annie Potts, and Raegan Revord, Zoe Perry and Lance Barber were able to understand that the Zoom call might not lead to positive news. Perry pointed out that right after she heard about the Zoom call, there was a “lot of uncertainty,” and she thought that it might lead to the end of the series. Lance Barber also thought that the Zoom call would lead to the announcement of “the end”.
