This hit crime drama is leaving Netflix soon, don't miss your chance to watch

As is the case with several titles on Netflix, some titles are leaving the streaming giant this coming week. One of these titles that's leaving the platform is the USA Network's Queen of the South, which is headlined by Alice Braga, Veronica Falcón, Joaquim de Almeida, Hemky Madera, and many more. Netflix itself confirmed that the show is leaving the platform through an article on Tudum last Friday.

The streaming giant describes the plot of the USA Network crime drama TV series like this:

"Forced to work for a cartel that recently killed her boyfriend, Teresa relies on her street smarts, a loyal friend, and a mysterious notebook to survive."

Why is Queen of the South leaving Netflix?

It should be noted that all five seasons of Queen of the South dropped on the streamer after the fifth season ended its ten-episode run in June 2021. Netflix owned the First Run rights to Queen of the South. For the uninitiated, the First Run rights enable a streamer to stream an entire series after its entire run on the TV network.

But it seems the rights have expired, and as of now, we don't know where Queen of the South will be available after it leaves Netflix this Tuesday. Therefore, catch this popular show before it leaves Netflix on Tuesday.

What is the crime drama TV series about?

An adaptation of the telenovela La Reina del Sur and writer Arturo Pérez-Reverte's novel, which is also titled "The Queen of the South", the series centers around Teresa Mendoza, whose life takes a dark turn after being forced to join a Cartel. The official logline of the show reads:

"Based on best-selling book La Reina Del Sur by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, Queen Of The South tells the story of Teresa Mendoza (Alice Braga). When her drug-dealing boyfriend is unexpectedly murdered in Mexico, Teresa is forced to go on the run and seek refuge in America, where she teams with an unlikely figure from her past to bring down the leader of the very drug trafficking ring that has her on the run. In the process, she learns the tools of the trade and strategically positions herself to become the leader of the Cartel."

Consisting of five seasons, the makers announced that the fifth season would be Queen of the South's final season in March 2021. Frances Berwick, the chairman of entertainment networks at NBCU at that time, released the following statement:

“For five incredible seasons, Queen of the South has captivated us with brilliant storytelling and bold, powerful characters. This series broke boundaries for the genre, and we are so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with this incredible team of creators, cast and crew along with our studio partners at 20th Television and UCP. As we close this final chapter, we look forward to a great season culminating in a finale that will give our fans the ending they deserve.”
