To My Beloved Thief finale recap and ending explained:  Yi-yeol’s journey comes to a resonating conclusion

Intense political intrigue and emotional turmoil often go hand in hand in each episode of To My Beloved Thief. After the king abdicated the throne in the previous episode of the series, which caused Yi-yeol to take over the throne as the new king, the situation of the characters seemed to have been progressing in a positive direction.

However, at the end of episode 15 of To My Beloved Thief, Yi-yeol and Eun-jo’s lives face yet another setback as Sa-hyeong holds his sword to Eun-jo’s throat after Eun-jo breaks the soul-switching bracelet, leaving the viewers with an intense cliffhanger.

Yi-yeol’s journey comes to a resonating conclusion in To My Beloved Thief finale and ending

The finale of To My Beloved Thief starts with chaos erupting at the palace after Jae-i arrives to inform Yi-yeol about Sa-hyeong’s escape. After his confrontation with his father, Sa-hyeong, Jae-i understood that something might be wrong. After he reached the location where his father was kept, he found that he had escaped.

He also understood that Sa-hyeong would now be attacking Eun-jo. On the other hand, Sa-hyeong holds a sword to Eun-jo’s neck. He is angry that she ruined his plan. He then takes her as a captive, as he understood Eun-jo could be his ticket to getting back the position he wanted initially. Though Eun-jo understood the danger she was in, she kept her mind calm and pretended to be scared so that Sa-hyeong would not get suspicious.

He then pushes the makeup powder that was present in the room into the fire so that it can create a toxic gas. Sa-hyeong also tells Eun-jo that her father was not killed by the king. It was Sa-hyeong who killed Eun-jo’s father as part of his plan. The toxic gas begins to take effect, with Sa-hyeong coughing up blood. Eun-jo is also impacted by the gas. The gas paralyzes the entire body and leads to death. Right at that moment, Yi-yeol arrives and takes Eun-jo away.

This episode of To My Beloved Thief continues with Eun-jo’s health deteriorating. The doctor arrives; however, Eun-jo’s situation seems to be taking a negative turn. Yi-yeol begins to lose hope. Eun-jo’s family is informed. Her mother and brother arrive right away to take care of her. People begin to worry about Eun-jo’s health as days pass by.

Yi-yeol stays by Eun-jo’s side through it all. In a flashback scene, the viewers are taken back to the time when Eun-jo and Yi-yeol were spending time together during the lantern festival. It is revealed that Yi-yeol searched for the lantern on which Eun-jo wrote about her wish.

He found the lantern where she wrote that she wishes to be with Yi-yeol in the next life. Eun-jo’s wishes move Yi-yeol, as he wants to be with her even in this life as well. Back to the present, Eun-jo finally regains her consciousness after days.

This episode of To My Beloved Thief continues with Hae-rim arriving at Eun-jo’s house to check up on her. Eun-jo’s brother tells her that she is still at the palace. As Hae-rim is about to leave, her dress gets stuck, and she starts to fall down. Eun-jo’s brother is able to catch her right in time.

It is then revealed that Eun-jo’s brother is the scholar supporting Gil Dong. He was pretending not to know anything. He did in order to protect his sister and mother. On the other hand, Yi-yeol takes care of Eun-ju so that she regains her health quickly. Eun-jo then tells Yi-yeol that she tore the bracelet. She thinks that it might have prevented the soul swapping during the time when Sa-hyeong took her captive.

Yi-yeol is quite disappointed that now he will not be able to swap their souls when Eun-jo is in danger. This episode continues with Sa-hyeong regaining consciousness and sending a message to Eun-jo that the revenge is not over. However, Eun-jo writes back to him. Eun-jo's letter makes Sa-hyeong understand that he has lost. He decides to end his life.

Jae-i is informed about Sa-hyeong’s death. Though he is angry at the situation that his father created, he also mourns his loss. Yi-yeol decides to visit Jae-i, during which Jae-i opens up about his birth. He was born to a courtesan. This made him hide his low birth.

He also did not let himself get attached to anyone in the house for this reason. However, watching Eun-jo keep fighting despite her situation pushed him to understand his faults. Jae-i then leaves the country to have a fresh start. He also decides not to inform Eun-jo about his departure.

At the end of this episode of To My Beloved Thief, Yi-yeol tells Eun-jo to wait for him so that she can become the only thing that he must protect. He wants to be with her; however, Yi-yeol’s title prevents them from getting married.

Yi-yeol eventually decides to give the title of king away to Ban, while the previous king gets treatment for his addiction. At the very end, Yi-yeol is able to come to Eun-jo as just a simple man to be with her. It is also revealed that Eun-jo was the one who saved Yi-yeol from drowning while he was a child.
