During an interview with ScreenRant's Liam Crowley, Gabriel Luna, who plays Tommy Miller in The Last of Us, opened up about his character arc in the upcoming Season 3. The star explained that the change in storyline would make his character more complex than a simple hero or villain.

Gabriel revealed that Tommy could appear as a very different person who takes on different sides and qualities from each perspective. Gabriel revealed,

"Oh, I think it's all a matter of perspective. To them, I'm the boogeyman. To us, I'm just there for my niece, and I'm trying to get out of town."

The star added,

"I love that bit in the game, when you kind of encounter Tommy that way. I'm trying not to say too much, but there's some great Tommy stuff in this season, and we're so proud of it, and we're ready to bring it home."

In Season 2, viewers had seen Tommy as an important leader in the survivor community of Jackson, Wyoming. There, he helped and protected residents alongside his wife, Maria.

After sharing an emotional reunion with his brother Joel in Season 1, Tommy was once again separated from him when Abby and her group tracked Joel down and killed him. After Joel's death, the story shifted its focus to Ellie, who set out on a mission to avenge him.

What can we expect about Tommy's character arc in the upcoming season?

Season 2's ending left Tommy's fate uncertain because Abby held him at gunpoint inside the theater. The screen went black after a gunshot, and the story shifted to Abby's perspective several days earlier.

Gabriel's comment means that Tommy survives the encounter, which matches the events of the video game. Without revealing major spoilers, Tommy remained an important part of Abby's storyline in The Last of Us Part II.

In the game, Tommy is an antagonist who relentlessly tracked down Abby and the members of her group. However, according to Gabriel, the new chapter would reveal more about Tommy, similar to the game.

Although Tommy was determined to avenge Joel's death, Abby saw him very differently. From her point of view, Tommy was just as dangerous and ruthless as his brother. According to Abby, Joel was not the complicated hero but a man who killed her father without mercy.

Viewers don't know whether The Last of Us Season 3 will include the incidents from the game, but Radio Times revealed that the next chapter would be the final one.

The latest season introduced several major changes to the original story and kept Tommy away from the scene of Joel's death. Therefore, Tommy might appear less driven by revenge in the show than he did in the game. It remains uncertain how these changes will shape the story in the upcoming season.
