About Netflix Mike Tyson docuseries

TYSON, which has just premiered on Netflix, tells us about the titular man's journey from his difficult upbringing in Brooklyn and his early brushes with the law to his introduction to boxing. We also see how his mentorship under legendary trainer Cus D’Amato started and the major turning points in his professional career. In more ways than one the docu-series reminds viewers of why Mike is regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time.

While the docu-series explores some heavy topics, we do see Mike's sense of humor accompany his account of his life. The docu-series also explores the former boxer's troubled marriage to Robin Givens, his controversial fights with Evander Holyfield, the rape trial, the time he served in prison, his struggles with drug addiction, periods of recovery and relapse, and the heartbreaking death of his daughter.

Throughout TYSON, Mike's willingness to discuss his past varies. While he talked about his marriage, acknowledging some of the abuse allegations, he did not speak too much about the Indianapolis rape accusation.

The docu-series also features interviews with Mike's former manager, Rory Holloway, Lennox Lewis, James Douglas, and Tyson's children. According to Tudum by Netflix, speaking about the docu-series, Mike said:

“Most people are too scared to look at their lives objectively, wanting to paint themselves as the hero of their own story."

He continued:

“But if we are truly objective, we know we can never be the hero in our own story. We have to be able to face the man in the mirror — taking the good with the bad — to give a full account of our contributions in this life.”

He also expressed gratitude for being given the opportunity to talk about his story his way. He said:

“Having an opportunity to share my story through the reflective lens of my growth and maturity … will be a challenging journey, yet a very [welcome] one."

The docuseries is directed by Floyd Russ and produced by Jenna Millman, Jacob Miller, and Alexa Ginsburg. The directors of photography behind the docu-series are David Bolen and Jacob Møller. The music is composed by Raffertie, and the series has been edited by Wax Taber, Dan Duran, and David Tillman.

Executive producers behind the docu-series are Douglas Banker, Jim Gray, Michael Hughes, Greg Lake, Jonna McLaughlin, Ian Orefice, Floyd Russ, Bill Simmons, and Amanda Spain.
