Vhagar isn’t the only powerhouse in House of the Dragon’s dragon rankings

Anyone who is a fan of House of the Dragon knows that Vhagar is one of the biggest dragons Westeros has ever seen. The people of Westeros have seen dragons only after the Targaryens arrived and conquered the seven kingdoms. When they first arrived, Balerion the Black Dread, ridden by Aegon the Conquerer, was the biggest dragon in Westeros.

Vhagar is the second-largest after Balerion, and during the time of House of the Dragon, she is the largest and oldest dragon. Despite being a war dragon, Vagar isn't the only powerhouse dragon of the show.

5 dragons in House of the Dragon besides Vhagar that stand out

As House of the Dragon has made it evident countless times, dragons are primarily what makes the Targaryens so powerful. Aegon the Conquerer and his sister wives were able to conquer Westeros due to their own skills and because they had three terrifying dragons. In House of the Dragon, besides gathering armies, both the Blacks and the Greens have been doing their best to have enough dragons to fight on their respective sides.

While Vhagar is considered the ultimate war dragon, here are 5 other dragons that are powerful as well.

Vermithor

Vermithor, who is also known as The Bronze Fury, was introduced in House of the Dragon Season 2 when Rhaenyra was hoping to find a rider for him. The dragon has bronze scales and tan wings. Currently, Vermithor is ridden by Hugh the Hammer, but the dragon has had another rider. Vermithor was first ridden by King Jaehaerys I and was then riderless for a long time.

The dragon stayed in Dragonstone with Silverwing until they were claimed by Hugh and Ulf the White during the dance of the dragons. Vermithor is the second largest dragon in Westeros during the dance of the dragons, coming after Vhagar. However, the dragon is an aggressive one and can be a great asset during war.

Caraxes

Also known as The Blood Wyrm, Caraxes is one of the most easily recognized dragons of House of the Dragon, as he is ridden by Prince Daemon Targaryen. Before Daemon, Caraxes was ridden by Prince Aemon Targaryen, the father of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, with whom the dragon fought the Fourth Dornish War.

Caraxes has a slender neck and red scales and is known for his bloodthirsty nature. The dragon also has extensive battle experience due to his time with Daemon. He is also known for having an extremely close bond with his rider Daemon.

Meleys

Also known as The Red Queen, Meleys is probably one of the most loved dragons of the show who perished in House of the Dragon Season 2. Meleys was first by Princess Alyssa Targaryen and, during her young years, was known as the swiftest dragon in Westeros. The dragon was then ridden by Princess Rhaenys, as we've seen in the show.

Despite being much older during the dance of the dragons, Meleys fought valiantly against Vhagar and Sunfyre before dying at Rook's Rest.

Silverwing

Silverwing is currently ridden by Ulf the White and has silver-gray scales. Unlike many fierce war dragons, she is famously known for rarely showing aggression. However, she is one of the strongest dragons the Blacks have in House of the Dragon.

The dragon was first ridden by Queen Alysanne Targaryen, the sister-wife of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen. In Fire & Blood, Silverwing is one of the only dragons that survived the Dance of the Dragons and lived in fear of her life near the Red Lake in the Reach and lived out her final days without a rider.

Dreamfyre

House of the Dragon recently showed us Dreamfyre in one of Halaena's dragon dreams. The dragon was ridden by Princess Rhaena Targaryen, daughter of King Aenys I Targaryen. In Fire & Blood, Halaena bonded with Dreamfyre when she was young and rode her as well.

However, during the dance of the dragons, she refused to ride Dreamfyre into battle. Many fans theorize Dreamfyre to be the mother of Daenerys' dragons since she laid multiple eggs during her life, but that is yet to be confirmed.
