VisionQuest is fleshing out the synthetic lives of AI programs in the MCU like no other previous project. The character of Josephine "Jo" Carrington/Jocasta is the proof that characters in the MCU can lose their mortal bodies, and yet continue living by transferring their consciousness into an AI code. A new fan theory claims that Tony might be hiding in plain sight.

If this fan is to be believed, Tony might have done something similar to VisionQuest's Carrington, by backing up his consciousness into an AI code. In fact, we might have even seen this AI version of Tony. In the third act of Avengers: Endgame, Happy, Pepper, Morgan and Rhodey are watching a video recording left by Tony. But, what if it is more than a recording?

VisionQuest fan theory: The holographic Tony we saw in Avengers: Endgame could be an AI program

We know that Tony Stark recorded the message just before he went for the Time Heist, along with the rest of the Avengers. But this new theory suggests that Stark might have uploaded his consciousness into an AI code. Thus, the "video recording" could just be an AI version of Tony Stark. In the comics, Tony has had a digital body, most notably in the storylines after 2016's Civil War II.

If the MCU Tony has done something similar, we can expect to see AI Tony be a part of the MCU moving forward. However, it should be taken only as a theory at this point.

Even if Robert Downey Jr. were not to return as Tony Stark, he is back in the MCU in a different role:

We know that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU, but this time as a villain, rather than a hero. RDJ was famously cast as the iconic Marvel villain, Victor von Doom in 2024. We will properly see him in action in this December's Avengers: Doomsday, after a cameo appearance in The Fantastic Four: First Steps post-credit scene.

However, as of now, it is unclear if RDJ's Tony will return to the MCU moving forward, even if the actor is returning to a different role. VisionQuest does feature a storyline of a dying Jo Carrington backing up her consciousness into an AI, enabling her "resurrection" as Jocasta. If the ongoing Disney+ MCU series is to be believed, it is possible for RDJ's Tony to return without a body.

However, the idea that Stark backed up his consciousness into an AI program feels a bit outlandish for now. But VisionQuest could feature the return of another key MCU player.

Wanda might return in the series:

Wanda has been believed to be dead since 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, we never saw her body, which is why fans refuse to believe that she is dead. In 48 hours we will finally get a clearer picture about the Scarlet Witch's fate in the MCU. There are two distinct possibilities when it comes to Elizabeth Olsen's role in the Paul Bettany-headlined series.

One possibility is that the finale features a cameo appearance by Olsen, confirming that she is alive, setting up her role in next month's Avengers: Doomsday, or the episode just features nods to her fate, setting up the MCU epic releasing next month. But one popular fan theory is that VisionQuest does tie into Avengers: Doomsday.

If Wanda is the link between the two MCU projects, it would make sense because several rumors have suggested that the Scarlet Witch could be on Victor von Doom's side in the movie. Several posters have confirmed the involvement of three mysterious characters called "Latverian Witches." Many fans believe that one of these witches devoted to Doom is none other than Wanda.
