VisionQuest appears to have finally shown its main villain, but the character's identity might have revealed an important part of Vision's history. The mysterious Client, who appeared in episode 7 titled Immolation, was connected to the former home of Dr. Phineas Horton, Horton Manor. According to Marvel, Dr. Phineas is the scientist who created the first synthezoid that later became the model for Vision.

After watching Immolation, most of the Marvel fans started believing that the Client could be Dr. Phineas's grandson. As per the show's timeline and the Client's apparent connection to the manor, the fans had made this theory. If that turns out to be true, the Client would have a direct link to the family behind the earliest synthezoid technology.

The theory became even more interesting after Immolation revealed that the Client was once Josephine Carrington's business and romantic partner. Their shared goal of using nanotechnology to become godlike beings suggested that he might hold knowledge about synthetic life that had remained hidden throughout the season.

That connection could make the Client more than just VisionQuest's biggest villain. He might also be the missing piece that links Vision's origin, Dr. Phineas's legacy, and the larger mystery driving the series towards its finale.

VisionQuest: How may the Client be the missing piece of Vision's origin?

In VisionQuest, the biggest villain had been revealed as Ultron. However, episode 7 revealed that Ultron had been secretly controlling incidents from within Vision's Mindspace the entire time. According to Mashable, the episode Immolation also revealed a mysterious figure known as the Client, who hired the mercenary Paladin to track down Vision.

Bam! Smack! Pow! revealed that every AI introduced in the series was based on a real person. For example, J.A.R.V.I.S. was modeled after Edwin Jarvis, who was Howard Stark's real-life butler. Jocasta was created using the work of neuroscientist and AI leader Jo Carrington, while her consciousness was placed inside the android. Similarly, E.D.I.T.H., U, F.R.I.D.A.Y., and Dum-E were all inspired by real people. Immolation also showed that the same principle applies to Jim Hammond.

Dr. Phineas was a talented scientist who lived during World War II. After losing his son, James Horton, he became determined to bring back what he had lost. Rather than relying on time travel or magic, he turned to science and created a synthezoid named Jim Hammond, which was designed to exist without negative emotions like sadness. Jim was developed to resemble James, and since Vision's code was linked to Dr. Phineas's discoveries, the former Avenger might share a resemblance to Dr. Phineas.

This created a major mystery. If Jo Carrington's research served as the foundation for many MCU AIs, including Vision, then how did Jim's source code become part of Vision's story?

VisionQuest established that Jo's work played a significant role in the development of advanced AI, but the series has not yet explained how Dr. Phineas's early research became connected to her investigations. Since Jim has a clear connection with Vision's origin, there must be a link between the two scientists.

That connection could be the Client.

VisionQuest's Immolation showed that the Client worked alongside Jo during her AI research. The episode also confirmed that he lives in Horton Manor. These details made him a strong candidate for the missing link between Dr. Phineas and Jocasta. Based on the clues presented in the show, it is possible that The Client is actually Dr. Phineas's grandson.

As per this theory, Dr. Phineas's designs were merged with Jo's consciousness research and helped in creating the foundation for many of the MCU's most advanced AIs. This possibility could also explain why Jocasta's nanobots need a sixth key to unlock them. Each key might have belonged to a different member of the team accountable for creating the first sentient AI. The forgotten sixth member could be The Client.

While this remains a theory based on the hints revealed in the show so far, Dr. Phineas's research appeared too significant to be unrelated to Jo's work. If the two storylines are connected, then the Client might be the crucial figure who bridges the gap between them and helps explain a missing chapter in Vision's origin story.
