VisionQuest Episodes 3 and 4 introduce the mysterious robotic killer Jocasta. She is murdering the board members of Markridge Biotech, the tech firm that developed the first stable synthetic consciousness in the MCU. The fourth episode further reveals that Jocasta is the Markridge co-founder, Jo Carrington, previously believed to be dead.

The episode doesn't further explain whether her consciousness was transferred into a robotic body or if she herself was transformed into an android. But eagle-eyed viewers noticed something: Although she is introduced in VisionQuest, the first reference to Jocasta is in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron.

VisionQuest - Avengers: Age of Ultron's Jocasta Easter egg explained

We see an AI chip in the background labelled "Jocasta" in the second half of Avengers: Age of Ultron. In that scene, Tony is shuffling through different AI programs to use because J.A.R.V.I.S. could not be used anymore. As Tony Stark holds F.R.I.D.A.Y., a chip tagged "Jocasta" is visible in the background on the desk.

However, VisionQuest may be ignoring this Easter egg from Age of Ultron, as the show portrays Jocasta as an android. However, it should be noted that the Disney+ MCU series could flesh out Jocasta's backstory in the remaining four episodes.

Jocasta's backstory could parallel Vision's origin from Age of Ultron

Bruce Banner and Tony Stark created Vision by using the Mind Stone and transferring J.A.R.V.I.S.'s consciousness into Vision's body. Markridge might have done something similar with Jo Carrington. Some fan theories have also suggested that Carrington might have been forcefully transformed into an android.

But the basic idea behind Vision and Jocasta could be the same, as they both probably involve consciousness transfer. We can expect this mystery to be solved in the next four episodes, as Episodes 5 and 6 drop this week.

What is Jocasta's role in the Disney+ MCU series?

Jocasta makes her first appearance in the Disney+ series by murdering a man who is later revealed to be a board member of Markridge Biotech. These two episodes further confirm that the mysterious murder from the first two episodes was indeed committed by Jocasta. She is collecting biomarkers from Markridge board members for some reason.

The final moments of the fourth episode upend this plotline: Ultron, who has taken control of Vision's body, throws a wrench in Jocasta's plan by brutally murdering Markridge CEO Katerina Wells. As a result, Jocasta is likely to be a threat to Vision in the remaining four episodes of the MCU series.

"Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponize him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including Friday, Edith, Jarvis, and the infamous Ultron. His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepherd, a mysterious boy who may be Vision’s son, reincarnate."

VisionQuest Episodes 5 and 6 are set to drop on Disney+ tomorrow at 09:00 PM ET/06:00 PM PT.
