We Are All Trying Here is a new Korean drama that will be interesting to watch, and many people are already following it closely. The drama will first air on JTBC on April 18, 2026, and because of the cast, writers and storyline, this drama has become the most anticipated K-drama of the year. The new show, We Are All Trying Here, will air each Saturday and Sunday at the 22:40 timeslot, taking over the airing spot of The Practical Guide to Love. In addition to that, viewers in select areas will have access to view We Are All Trying Here via streaming service Netflix as soon as it has been broadcast. There are twelve episodes, so the show will run until May 24, 2026.The drama is written by Park Hae-Young, which, on its own, is reason enough for a certain kind of drama fan to be totally excited for the show. Park Hae-Young is the writer of My Mister and My Liberation Notes, which are frequently cited as some of the best Korean dramas ever made. The reason is they were quietly slow-paced, yet emotionally shocked fans with their realistic depictions of regular folks just trying to live.If We Are All Trying Here follows this tradition in some loose way, it will probably be a really great thing for such fans. The show will be directed by Cha Young Hoon, who directed both When the Camellia Blooms and his latest work, Welcome to Samdal-ri, which was also really well received. The three production companies producing We Are All Trying Here are Studio Phoenix, SLL and Studio Flow. The idea of the show is centered on a story which many people can relate to but do not talk about; that is, envy, jealousy, coupled with a certain kind of pain from seeing others get ahead of them while they feel like they are not getting ahead. The show has been described as depicting individuals who have endured a lot of struggle due to those feelings and are seeking to find some type of inner peace. The characters in We Are All Trying Here, and who is playing them?Koo Kyo-Hwan is cast as the lead character Hwang Dong-Man; he made a name for himself internationally through Parasyte: The Grey and a military thriller DP. His character, Dong-Man, is a budding filmmaker who is part of a famous group of filmmakers in Korea called The Eight, but still hasn't made a debut as a director.Although most of his peers have made it in life, he is trying his best not to feel worthless. He does so in an overtly loud, awkward manner. Besides being humoros, his style of dealing with his problems is quite sad, too. The way Koo Kyo-Hwan describes it, when he first read the script of the character, he felt someone had looked through to his soul. This is probably a very good indicator that the writer has achieved something authentic.Opposite him is Go Youn-Jung, who is playing Byeon Eun-A, a producer at a film company called Choi Film. She has earned a very specific nickname in the industry, "The Axe", because of how sharp and cutting her screenplay reviews are. She is someone who looks in control from the outside but who is hiding a lot of anger and fear underneath all of that. Go Youn-Jung has been in several big Netflix projects recently, including Can This Love Be Translated and Alchemy of Souls, and she has been building toward a lead role like this one for a while now.The rest of the cast of We Are All Trying Here, and what makes this show worth watching?Oh Jung-Se plays the role of Park Kyeong-Se, who is a film director whose last film did quite poorly at the box office, and is very destabilized by Dong-Man and all that Dong-Man represents to him. In other words, the reaction involves feelings of affection and resentment due to his own insecurity.Kang Mal-Geum portrays Ko Hye-Jin, who happens to be both the CEO at Gobak Film and married to Park Kyeong-Se. She is described as being an open-minded kind of person who could actually listen to everything Dong-Man has to say, even if he talked forever. And many fans remember Park Hae-Joon from When Life Gives You Tangerines as well, and he will be playing Hwang Jin-Man who is the older brother of Dong-Man and used to be a poet till he hit some brick wall in his life. Now he will be dealing with it and carrying around all that emptiness that happened because of it, but he will do it very quietly. The three actors of When Life Gives You Tangerines, Oh Jung-Se, Kang Mal-Geum, and Park Hae-Joon, will appear together in We Are All Trying Here. The combination of natural chemistry exhibited by three out of five of the main cast members supports the argument that the cast of We Are All Trying Here will benefit from the presence of each other. The strength of this cast and the reputation that the writer has are making this series one of the most anticipated productions of 2026.
