Jess Brownell, in a recent interview, dives into the crucial storyline that the series adapts from the Julia Quinn book in Bridgerton Season 4.

The creators of the series completely embraced the essence that the book delivered. There is a significant focus on Benedict’s growing feelings for Sophie.

Hence, he asks her to become his mistress after he shares an intense moment with her on the stairs. Sophie is taken aback by Benedict’s proposal, which causes her to leave him without giving him any answer. Jess Brownell discusses the Cinderella story of this season of Bridgerton.

Bridgerton showrunner, Jess Brownell, on adapting a crucial storyline from Julia Quinn’s book in Season 4

Jess Brownell, while discussing the adaptation of Julia Quinn’s book in Bridgerton Season 4 with Variety, said:

"We wanted right away to signal to viewers that this is a different type of season and that you’re going to be let into places in this world that you’ve never been. So we dip in right away downstairs. I do think that 'An Offer From a Gentleman' adapts itself really easily to television, because there are a lot of plot-driven visual set pieces in that book. So plot-wise, it felt like we were able to follow it pretty closely."

The main reason for this is that “there are a lot of plot-driven visual set pieces” that are present in the book. Hence, they were able to “follow” these “visual set pieces” closely without any issue. Jess Brownell also indicates that Sophie is “not a maid waiting to be saved by a prince”.

She has her own ways with a distinct “moxie” and "pluck”. The version of Sophie in the series “honors” the character in the book. Sophie undoubtedly wants to be with a gentleman; however, the gentleman “has to learn to grow to become worthy of the maid”.

Jess Brownell also gives a spoiler about the parts from the Julia Quinn book that are present in part 2 of Bridgerton Season 4. She says that there will be a “couple key set pieces from the book in the back half”. There will be a “light-hearted, sexy moment” alongwith a “darker set piece”. The “lighthearted, sexy moment” is an “homage” to the book.

The fourth season of the series is already raising the anticipation of the viewers about the upcoming storylines of the remaining siblings of the Bridgerton house. Jess Brownell indicates that, as the last three seasons “have been focused on” the boys of the house, the fifth and the sixth seasons of the series are “definitely about the middle” girls of the family.

Anthony and Kate are also going to be present in the second part of this season, as they were away in India. At the end of the first part, Benedict’s storyline with Sophie, Violet’s situation with Marcus, and Francesca’s complex relationship with John take the forefront of the storyline. Alice also finds herself in a difficult situation as Lady Danburry tricks her into becoming the Queen’s lady-in-waiting so that she can leave.

The cast members of this season perfectly capture the struggles of their corresponding characters, especially Luke Thompson’s depiction of Benedict’s emotional turmoil while navigating through his difficulties while searching for Sophie, along with Yerin Ha’s depiction of Sophie navigating through the struggles of her life.

Jess Brownell speaks about the transformation that Benedict goes through in the fourth season of the series, saying that he “really hasn’t changed”. Benedict is “inspired to change” after he meets Sophie. Instead of a “big glow up” as the other characters of the series went through, Benedict “has always been a really handsome, romantic character” who has been presented in “a glowed-up way from day one.” This aspect of Benedict’s character grabs the attention of the viewers right away in this season.
