Seth Rogen is all set to return in The Studio Season 2 and once again poke fun at how chaotic an upredictabe the film industry can be. The series first arrived on Apple TV+ and was a big hit, which led to the renewal.
It has some of the best actors from the industry, with the key characters also set to return. However, fans won't be able to see Matt's mentor, Patty Leigh, in Season 2 because of Catherine O’Hara's unfortunate demise.
The actress's death sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and her absence will also be felt in The Studio Season 2. In an interview, Seth Rogen explained that O'Hara's character was actually the central figure holding everything together. And now, they feel without an anchor. The actor said:
"If anything we’re acknowledging the idea that we are a little anchorless."
Rogen mentioned that this imbalance will be highlighted in the upcoming chapter. While the series usually avoids getting too heavy, this time it will acknowledge that loss instead of pretending everything is normal.
More details below.
Seth Rogen talks about Catherine O’Hara's absence in The Studio Season 2

One of the major and emotional changes in The Studio Season 2 is that Catherine O’Hara will no longer be there. The late actress appeared as the powerful and often chaotic movie executive, Patty Leigh, and a mentor to Matt.
Seth Rogen explained that her absence isn’t something the show will overlook. Instead, it will be directly reflected in the story.. He also said:
"But, honestly, that is a part of life and what we all experience. And so while we try to not dwell too much on heavy themes in this show, they will be there in this second season. We are not ignoring it."
Co-creator Evan Goldberg was also present and said:
"Obviously, emotionally, dealing with the loss, but also when it comes to the show itself. We wrote it for her to be there..."
He continued:
"It’s been difficult. You worded it better than we could — she was the anchor and now the anchor is gone."
Goldberg pointed out that the entire storyline had already been built assuming Catherine O’Hara's presence in The Studio Season 2. Now that they've lost her, it has created a ripple effect across the season.

What to expect from The Studio Season 2?

The Studio Season 2 will continue to follow Matt Remick's journey as he tries to keep his studio alive in an ever-changing industry. By the end of Season 1, the studio’s future was uncertain, with the possibility of it being taken over by a major tech company.
This means that the team will face pressure, especially Matt, who didn't even imagine being in such a position. At the same time, Season 2 will ensure that the core idea of the series remains the same: focusing on unpredictability, the clash between creativity and business and unpredictability of celebrity behaviour.
Rogen previously said that The Studio Season 2 will be based on what the team has experienced while making the first chapter. He said that:
"We're looking forward to taking the lived experience of making season one and immediately putting it into season two."
The story will be more grounded, and fans can also expect ambitious scenarios, unexpected twists, and bold satire.
