"Unbowed and Unbent", the fifth House of the Dragon Season 3 episode, further plants the seeds of the slow downfall of Rhaenyra's reign. Ormund and his schemes are the biggest threats to Team Black, as he successfully weaponizes the empty treasury and hopes to incite a rebellion against the Targaryen queen. This episode suggests that Ormund might succeed in a future episode.

Who is killing the Gold Cloaks?

Midway through the episode, we see a scene of a little girl walking up the stairs, leading to a room with a mysterious man. We saw this mysterious man briefly in the second House of the Dragon Season 3 episode as one of the guards Alicent told to stand down. This man sends a scroll to Tumbleton, and it reaches the hands of Ormund Hightower. The message reads:

"Gold blood spilled. Three marked in the tally. The account lies open."

This note confirms that Ormund is the mastermind behind the murder of the Gold Cloaks in King's Landing. As for why this unidentified guard is involved in the plot to kill Rhaenyra's loyal soldiers, the episode reveals that the royal treasury is empty, and several employees remain unpaid. Therefore, Ormund is taking advantage of this resentment.

Are Alicent & Helaena Trapped in That Tunnel?

Alicent tries to convince Helaena to escape the Red Keep in this episode after failing to convince the latter to drink the Moon Tea, which induces abortion. Last week's House of the Dragon episode revealed that Helaena is pregnant with Aegon II's heir. When she fails to convince Helaena to abort the baby, Alicent tries to escape their captivity.

They try escaping as maids, but Mysaria discovers their attempt. The new Master of Whisperers sends them to a room, which, unbeknownst to her, also has a secret passage. Helaena and Alicent manage to escape the room and reach a dead end. The mother and daughter are stuck there, and that's where we last see them in the last act of this episode.

However, we see Helaena briefly in the preview of next week's sixth episode. Therefore, it is clear that the two will be recaptured in the upcoming episode.

Is Ormund abusive towards Daeron Targaryen?

This episode further suggests that Ormund is abusive towards his nephew during the scene in which the two are playing Cyvasse, the Westerosi equivalent of chess. Daeron uses the dragon piece, which supposedly is the winning move, upsetting Ormund. Realizing what he did, Daeron tries to take back his winning movie, but Ormund aggressively holds his nephew's hand and proceeds to throw all the pieces off the board.

Then, Ormund walks up to his nephew and tells Daeron that the latter should never apologize for victories. This scene and last week's closing minutes confirm that Alicent was wrong to task Ormund with Daeron's care.

What are Criston Cole's motivations?

Criston Cole and his forces pass through a treacherous landscape to Stoney Sept, including one encountering "Crow's Feet", which injures the horses. In the books, "Crow's Feet" are named so because they're iron pikes shaped like the birds' feet. Despite that, they make it close to a river close to Stoney Sept. The only problem is that Oscar Tully and his forces have burnt a bridge stretching over the river, meaning Cole's forces are stranded.

Cole is determined to head to Stoney Sept despite the obstacle, making Gwayne Hightower realize that Aegon II's Hand intends to die in this quest, which he confirms. It seems that the most hated House of the Dragon character might meet his end soon.

Will Aegon II bounce back?

Larys drops some truth bombs on Aegon II, causing the royal prince to finally mature. We see him score a victory over his tormentor in the Rook's Rest settlement, Janos. The thug had taken Aegon II's crown, and in retaliation, the prince fatally stabs Janos. This scene marks a turning point for Aegon II, who has been experiencing indignities since the fourth episode of the second season, which ended with his injury.

Moreover, Aegon II's dragon, Sunfyre, might still be alive, meaning his luck could still turn.
