Wendy Williams' docuseries to tell all, from daytime talk show reign to “infamous exit”

Peacock has greenlit a new documentary about Wendy Williams and her Emmy-winning Daytime talk show. The three-part docuseries, which is scheduled to air in 2027, is tentatively titled Clap If You Care: The Wendy Williams Show.

Williams is a former broadcaster, media personality, and author who began her career as a radio DJ and gained notoriety for her confrontational interviews with celebrities. The former radio DJ went on to host the nationally syndicated television talk show The Wendy Williams Show from 2008 to 2021. Peacock's upcoming docuseries appears to focus on Williams' career before the abrupt end of her talk show.

The official logline for the docuseries reads as follows:

“Skyrocketing from unlikely beginnings as a radio host to her impact on entertainment culture, Williams redefined the daytime talk genre with her outrageous on-screen fun on the long-running, Daytime Emmy-nominated talk show. While praising Williams’ TV reign, the documentary also sheds light on the complicated truths about the cost of fame and answers long-lingering questions surrounding the infamous exit from her own show.''

What is Wendy Williams' Peacock docuseries about?

Peacock's upcoming docuseries will follow Williams' impactful run as the daytime talk show host who redefined the genre with her outrageous and fun personality. The talk show ended in June 2022 after a successful run of 13 seasons. The cancelation news followed after it was reported that Williams was struggling with various health issues regarding her Graves’ disease and hyperthyroidism in the final few seasons and had also taken time away from the talk show in March 2018, May 2020, and October 2021.

Additionally, the September 2021 premiere was delayed due to Williams contracting COVID-19 and ongoing complications from her Graves' disease and thyroid condition. Later, The Wendy Williams Show returned for its final season, with guest stars such as Michelle Buteau, Sherri Shepherd, Michael Rapaport, Kym Whitley, Finesse Mitchell, and many more filling in for Williams. The talk show eventually aired its finale in June 2022, without Williams.

In an interview with The New York Times, Williams revealed that the show's syndication company didn't " ask her to do the finale'' and she did not like the show's end.

In May 2022, Williams was placed under a legal guardianship, following which it was revealed that she was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia (which affects your ability to speak and understand language) and frontotemporal dementia in February 2024. That same month, the talk show host also participated in Lifetime's Where Is Wendy Williams?, a documentary which chronicled Williams' life after the cancelation of her talk show.

While Williams is not attached to the Peacock docuseries as of now, Suzanne Bass, a longtime producer on The Wendy Williams Show, will serve as one of the primary executive producers on the series. Additionally, Bass will also bring her valuable insights from her time working alongside Williams on the talk show.

In addition to Suzanne Bass, 20 staffers from the Daytime talk show are reeled in to share their experiences and behind-the-scenes stories, working alongside the titular star of the docuseries.
