VisionQuest, the Disney+ MCU series, takes us inside the android Avenger's head, which is infested by different AI programs. One of them is J.A.R.V.I.S., the AI program Vision's actor, Paul Bettany, voiced between 2008 and 2015. The second episode ends on a more somber note as we see J.A.R.V.I.S. opt for a noble sacrifice. The program does so to save Vision and fellow AI programs from a certain death. J.A.R.V.I.S. is played by James D'Arcy in the series, who played the role of Howard Stark's human butler Edwin Jarvis in Agent Carter. D'Arcy returned to play the human version of the character in Avengers: Endgame, and now it seems that the British actor played the human avatar of J.A.R.V.I.S. in VisionQuest.VisionQuest - What happened to J.A.R.V.I.S.? View this post on Instagram Instagram PostThe second episode "Theseus" focuses on Vision rescuing Tommy from a facility. The bounty hunter Paladin had set a trap for Vision by placing Tommy inside a cage that can neutralize the android's powers. Therefore, the trap sets in motion as soon as Vision frees Tommy from his restraints. But they manage to break out of the cage to encounter Paladin with a gun.Turns out the bounty hunter is using adamantium bullets. Looks like the MCU is establishing that adamantium is stronger than vibranium. As Vision is bleeding out, every AI program, except for Ultron, is about to have a slow and painful death. This is when J.A.R.V.I.S. chooses to sacrifice himself and power every other AI program. As we see the last of J.A.R.V.I.S., we see the program's glowing yellow form, the same one we saw in Avengers: Age of Ultron. J.A.R.V.I.S.'s sacrifice ensures that E.D.I.T.H., Dum-E, U, and F.R.I.D.A.Y. survive this attack. The second episode ends with Tommy driving Vision out of the facility, setting up the third episode.Paul Bettany addressed this scene in an interview with TheWrap, which was published after the release of the first two episodes. What did Paul Bettany say about J.A.R.V.I.S.'s future in the MCU after VisionQuest?VisionQuest | Image Via: YouTube/Marvel EntertainmentBettany sat down for an interview with TheWrap, in which the actor expressed his opinion that the character of J.A.R.V.I.S. exited the series too soon. The actor reflected upon his experience working with James D'Arcy in 2003's Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World:“Yeah, and I hadn’t seen James D’Arcy since we made ‘Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World,’ you know, years and years and years before. It was so nice to get to work with him again, and then he was gone too soon.”Then, Paul Bettany went on to express his hope that this is not a farewell to J.A.R.V.I.S. in the MCU. The actor pointed out that since Vision and other AI programs share their DNA with J.A.R.V.I.S., the AI program could be restored in the Marvel Cinematic Universe:“The good news is, Jarvis’s DNA is part of Vision. So there’s always a way back.”Considering that J.A.R.V.I.S. is just an AI program, there's always a way for Marvel to bring the "dead" character back to the franchise. What's next for VisionQuest?
