Girl on the Run: The Hunt for America's Most Wanted Woman revolves around an incident of October 24, 2000, when Andrew Cataldi and Tricia Nordman were found shot to death in Indiana. The perp was Sarah Jo Pender, who was charged alongside her then boyfriend, Richard Hull, in connection with the killings.

It was brought to light that Pender helped orchestrate the crime, and a key piece of evidence was a letter allegedly written by Pender in which she appeared to take responsibility. Later in 2002, Pender was convicted of two counts of murder and sentenced to 110 years in prison.

It was a controversial case for years, but it returned to national headlines in August 2008. While serving her sentence at the Rockville Correctional Facility in Indiana, Pender escaped with the help of prison guard Scott Spitler and former inmate Jamie Long. According to court records, Spitler smuggled a cell phone to Pender and assisted her in slipping out of the facility.

Her case gained even more attention when she was featured on America's Most Wanted. In 2008, she was finally arrested when a neighbor recognized her after watching her on the show.
