However, just as Ted was having a good time with his friends, things took an ugly turn as the group was attacked by a robber. Ted's body started to react to the attack, and his tendrils were coming out. He went to the RV and saw Rick's pre-recorded holographic message, and Ted came to know about his true identity. Rick gave Ted two options to choose from: the red button would eliminate everything, and the blue button would help him forget everything and continue living as Ted.

Ted was overwhelmed, and he ran away. However, after spending the night with Marjorie, he decided to continue living as Ted and refused to give control of his life to his creator. Morty sent an egg spaceship to bring him back, but Ted denied. Ted was adamant about living his life with his friends and Marjorie. After Ted shared this with his friends, they agreed to help him.

However, Marjorie passed away tragically during the mission. Eventually, Rick and his friends managed to reach the C-137 universe. Ted crashed at the Smiths'. Ted used Rick's portal to send his friends to their reality. However, Ted eventually saw how messed up his friends' lives became after he gifted them Rick's gadgets.

Ted realized that he had failed to help his friends. He finally decided to come back to Rick's reality. He asked Morty to press the red button. However, it would be tough for Rick to move past Ted's memories.
