More about Hacks

In the previous Season, Deborah (Jean Smart) was shown working on her dream job as a late-night show host, but it didn't last as she quit on air to save Ava's job. However, quitting her dream job and starting something new was not easy because of her 18-month non-compete contract.

After spending some days reeling with what her career had come to, she finds a loophole in the contract and decides to travel to Hawaii with Ava. However, Ava later discovers it's not Hawaii but Singapore, where Deborah decides to try out her stand-up comedy as her material would be delivered to the audience through a translator, meaning she won't technically be performing, which will protect her from getting sued by Bob.

Deborah's career takes a nice turn as she becomes popular in Singapore, but Ava wants her to return to the States, which she initially refuses to do. However, an accidental obituary on her name by TMZ brings her determination back as she decides to take control of her career once more and heads back to the US.

Season 5 will pick up from here, as we will see how Deborah uses this incident to her advantage.
