Wonder Man Episode 4, "Doorman", is a flashback episode focusing on DeMarr Davis. This episode explains the reason why Simon is trying to keep his powers a secret in this Disney+ MCU series. Shot like an Atlanta episode, the fourth episode takes a break from the main plot of the series. Instead, it explains the reason behind one of the intriguing mysteries set up in the previous episodes. The first episode mentions something called the "Doorman Clause" as Simon attends the audition for Von Kovak's "Wonder Man" reboot. Now, the fourth explains the story of DeMarr Davis, the man behind the clause "Doorman Clause."Wonder Man: Who is DeMarr Davis/Doorman in Marvel Comics? View this post on Instagram Instagram PostIn Marvel Comics, DeMarr Davis is a mutant with the ability to create portals through his body. In a way, you may think that he is similar to Spot, the Spider-Man villain seen in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. However, DeMarr's body is connected to the extradimensional Darkforce dimension, which differentiates him from Spot. The DeMarr's character description on the Marvel website reads:"The mutant known as Doorman is a hero through and through, using his Darkforce Dimension teleportation abilities to help his teammates on the Great Lakes Avengers protect the world from threats."However, DeMarr's character is a bit different in the latest MCU Disney+ show, Wonder Man.What is DeMarr “Doorman” Davis' backstory in the MCU? View this post on Instagram Instagram PostFirst, it should be noted that DeMarr is NOT a mutant in the MCU. Wonder Man, Episode 4 opens with DeMarr Davis, a doorman working in the Wilcox Club in Los Angeles. He is friends with Josh Gad (Gad plays a fictionalized version of himself), who is a regular patron in Wilcox. One night, DeMarr is taking out the trash when he is exposed to the toxic waste from the Roxon dumpster. This toxic waste is what gives DeMarr access to what the comics describe as the "Darkforce Dimension." The next night, a fire breaks out, and people are stuck, as DeMarr saves these people, including Josh Gad. Soon, the actor hires DeMarr as his bodyguard and then even gets him cast in a movie titled "Cash Grab." However, DeMarr's life soon spirals into alcoholism after the movie is successful. After a string of commercials, DeMarr's life takes a dark turn, but soon Gad convinces his superpowered friend to sign up for Cash Grab II. DeMarr is drunk on the day when they are filming a stunt requiring a phasing stunt. Gad throws the money bags through DeMarr's body, which is successful. But things take a dark turn as soon as Gad runs into DeMarr's body, as he doesn't appear on the other side of the set.Josh Gad's disappearance is what leads to the "Doorman Clause," which bans individuals working in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Hollywood. It must be noted that Josh Gad is not dead in the MCU. He is just lost inside the portal. Showrunner Andrew Guest told The Direct that if there's a Wonder Man Season 2, the writers would find a way to bring Josh Gad back, confirming that he is alive:"We'll also get Josh Gad free. He’s gonna come out Doorman in a Season 2, I promise." One of the things that happened as we were getting towards filming the end of filming on the finale, Yahya, one day turned to me and he's like, ‘So, Simon can't act anymore.’ And I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ He's like, ‘Well, the DODC knows that he's got superpowers.’"Guest, then further continued:"So I was like, ‘Yeah, so the DODC knows it. But maybe they don't want to let everyone else know it. Maybe there's a deal to be worked out between Simon and the DODC, where there's a little trade-off going on.’ We could figure it. We can square this circle, given the opportunity."Did you watch Wonder Man? If you haven't, catch the entire series on Disney+.
