A new hero is lurking on the streets of New York in the MCU. Angela Del Toro officially takes on the mantle of White Tiger in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. The suit has been available for a while now, but Angela has finally taken on the masked identity that was left by her now-deceased uncle, Hector Ayala, who was gunned down in the first season.

Played by Camila Rodriguez, Angela comes into action in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 3, The Scales & The Sword, with a homemade costume and jumps through a window to assist Daredevil in a perilous rescue. It's no dramatic debut, but it's powerful nonetheless.

The shift has been building since Season 1 wrapped up. Angela was mourning, seeking justice, and quietly loitering around the vigilante community during that season. Now, with her aunt, Soledad, in detainment by the Anti-Vigilante Task Force, she finally snaps. She finds Hector's tiger amulet and makes what creations she can and begins taking matters into her own hands. The White Tiger tradition will continue, just with younger, less experienced hands.

Angela's story in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 must be put into context before you can truly understand it. Hector Ayala was a proud Puerto Rican man who loved his community and fought for the oppressed. His love was strengthened by the mystical amulet he wore, which would also increase his speed and strength to superhuman levels.

In Season 1, Hector was taken into custody following a scuffle that resulted in an officer's death. Matt Murdock took his case to trial and ultimately helped him achieve an acquittal. That triumph, however, was short-lived. Hector was shot and killed by a crooked cop on the courthouse steps, depriving Angela of her uncle and the MCU of an intriguing new character. The part was portrayed by the late Kamar de Los Reyes, who died in December 2023, and the series paid him tribute with a card.

Hector's death was not only a personal jolt to Angela; it was the trauma that drove her entire storyline in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.

How does Angela become White Tiger in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2?

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 quickly makes clear that Angela is still bearing that grief. In Episode 2, her aunt Soledad is attempting to diffuse a tense stand-off at a neighborhood bodega. A Task Force cop inches up and charges her with a phony charge, and for Angela, it's too much. Angela knows what happens to those who are sucked into Fisk's holding tank.

She goes to a law firm and retrieves the box containing her uncle's tiger amulet and his knives. By Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 3, she even has a prepared rebellious uniform, complete with a white hoodie, black pants, knee & elbow pads, and a black & white bandana draped across her mouth. It is not a metallic bodysuit of veteran heroic defeat, but a full-on gear of someone who decided tonight was the night.

When Daredevil visits a Red Hook hideout where Fisk has several hostages, Angela appears unannounced. Surprising everyone, she and Karen Page organize their escape, rip the tires off the vehicles with Hector's blades, and get everyone out in an armored vehicle. No one mentions her as White Tiger. Still, the point is unmistakable.

Who is Angela Del Toro in Marvel comics?

Angela Del Toro has a long history in the pages of Marvel Comics. She was co-created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Alex Maleev, making her debut in Daredevil in 2004. The source material depicts her as an adult FBI agent who is put to investigate Matt Murdock when her uncle dies, and the White Tiger amulet passes down to her.

She seeks out Daredevil for guidance, gets training, and becomes a worthy Vigilante herself. In the comic run, she teams up with Black Widow, suffers a horrifying death by the Hand, and is resurrected and co-opts a contentious rivalry with her own aunt, who later assumes the White Tiger alter ego.

This MCU version of Angela is decidedly less mature and far less seasoned. She is without any previous federal law enforcement experience. What she is armed with is an insatiable call for justice, an intrinsic understanding and constant strife for the mantle, along with a mystical amulet that could ultimately change the scope of her abilities.

What does her debut in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 imply for the MCU?

Angela is a reminder that Daredevil is gradually creating the street-level team that he claimed he needed at the end of Season 1. Kingpin dominates New York City. The Task Force is collecting allies. Matt Murdock is overwhelmed by this war, and the series is aware of that. Jessica Jones is back. The Punisher is hiding. And now White Tiger is present.

She is also flawed, emotional, and still learning. She didn't get there by duty or training; she got there because of love and pain, and in Hell's Kitchen, such fire is often where the coolest heroes are born.
