Charles' father, Lucas, appears in Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 17 during one of Charles' hallucinations. As it was previously stated, Charles' father died by suicide. He passed away due to the exhaust fumes. Charles initially believed that his father died because of his mother. However, his past misconceptions cleared out during his hallucination sequence.

In the initial sequence, he saw his mother, who blamed him for not doing the best for Gio (the man who contacted Charles in the suicide prevention helpline). Gio's call was abruptly cut and this threw Charles into deep discomfort. He kept worrying about Gio until he collapsed. Charles realised that his mother shouldn't be blamed for something she had no control over.

When Charles was fighting for his life in the operating theatre, his subconscious mind took the viewers on a flashback. He saw his father in a car in the garage with smoke covering it. Charles finally confronted his past trauma in this scene. In reality, it was Charles who found his father's dead body, and that scenario was etched with him forever. The past still haunts him after all these years.

In the hallucination period, he told his father that it was not his mother's fault. He said that his father has depression and he could help him. His father asked him to stay back in the car, but as Charles was drifting towards his father's words, he heard Goodwin and Archer's voices. He knew it was a trap, and he needed to fight his demons to survive. The operation was a success, and he survived in the end.
