Why did ABC fall 2026 schedule move High Potential Season 3 to midseason slot? New move explained 

According to the latest reports, ABC has made major changes in its 2026 fall schedule with High Potential Season 3 now placed on a midseason slot. Per Variety, the Tuesday 10 p.m. slot has now been allotted to R.J. Decker senior vice president of ABC, Ari Goldman's new content strategy was activated.

Goldman justified this decision in a statement mentioning that the move comes from a plan to keep "an uninterrupted run of episodes" for High Potential Season 3. He further backed this creative move for a more structured new season, saying:

“This is the first time in the history of the network, since 1948, that we have renewed every scripted series at ABC."

Though ABC's new fall schedule for High Potential Season 3 does not validate a lesser number of episodes, it is now clear that the new directive comes "a real opportunity to bridge through to the end of the year" for the hit comedy drama. Keeping in mind the behavior of "the linear audience", the decision is a consequence of the success of long-running franchises like Will Trent and The Rookie whose "uninterrupted runs" have kept viewers hooked over the years.

While addressing High Potential's replacement in the fall slot, senior VP of ABC Ari Goldman added that the show's opening success has shown signs for "an even bigger story to tell" which also justifies an early renewal. However, fans need not be worried about ABC's newest fall schedule for 2026 as Goldman has confirmed in his statement that viewers "will be well aware" of the show's return.

According to Variety, he further clarified R.J. Decker substituting High Potential saying:

"We can use a lead in ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ which is so far and away the biggest live audience opportunity on television today, to invest in something new that can be exposed to some more viewers."
