Dan Levy, who played David on the show, wrote on his Instagram saying,

“I will cherish every funny memory I was fortunate enough to make with her.”

The cast members are heartbroken, but more than that, they are holding on to the joy she brought into their lives and into Schitt’s Creek for 6 whole seasons.

Schitt’s Creek family remembers Catherine O’Hara

For those who worked most closely with Catherine O’Hara, it is not just about losing an absolute icon; it feels like losing a family member. Dan Levy, who played her son David on Schitt’s Creek and also co-created the show, shared his tribute to the actress on Instagram. He wrote,

“What a gift to have gotten to dance in the warm glow of Catherine O’Hara’s brilliance for all those years.”

He went on to explain how she was already part of his life long before Moira Rose existed, adding,

“Having spent over fifty years collaborating with my Dad, Catherine was extended family before she ever played my family.”

That post ended with him writing,

“It’s hard to imagine a world without her in it. I will cherish every funny memory I was fortunate enough to make with her.”

Eugene Levy also issued a statement reflecting on a partnership that spanned Second City, SCTV, and finally Schitt’s Creek. He said,

“Words seem inadequate to express the loss I feel today...”

He also called their friendship the most meaningful part of their decades-long collaboration.

What it was like acting opposite Catherine O’Hara’s Moira Rose on Schitt’s Creek

On Schitt’s Creek, O’Hara played Moira Rose in a way that no one else could have pulled off. The wigs, the strange accent, the confidence that was almost bordering on delusion. It all worked because she fully believed in the character.

Jennifer Robertson, who played Jocelyn Schitt, told USA Today,

“Being in Catherine O’Hara’s orbit was a beautiful, magical gift.”

She spoke about how Catherine never seemed to understand her own level of fame, calling her

an absolute star who never understood why people made such a fuss about her.”

Chris Elliott, who played Roland Schitt, also put out a statement. He said,

“Working with her and Eugene was a dream come true for me...”

The official statement from CBC Television (Schitt’s Creek)also focused on her impact:

“We are devastated to learn of the passing of Catherine O’Hara, a beloved Canadian icon whose brilliance lit up screens and stages around the world...”

During the show’s six-season run, O’Hara won multiple major awards for Schitt’s Creek.

Catherine O’Hara leaves behind a body of work that spans decades, including Schitt’s Creek. The statements from her fellow cast members touch on good memories, inside jokes, and gratitude.

O’Hara made the people around her feel braver and happier to be doing the work, which is why, even in grief, every tearful goodbye to the actress sounds like a thank-you note for all that she's done for the TV and film industry.
