Ahead of the release of Dark Winds Season 4 later this month, the creators of the show have already confirmed Season 5. The show was initially released back in 2022, and ever since the release of its first season, fans have always been eager to learn about the next season.

Dark Winds was created by George R.R. Martin, and the late Robert Redford served as an executive producer alongside Martin. The show is based on the Leaphorn and Chee novels by Tony Hillerman, and has run successfully for three seasons so far.
Season 4 will release for streaming on Prime Video on February 15, 2026, and will consist of eight episodes, each spanning an hour.
Dark Winds Season 5 will also release quite soon, according to AMC
AMC recently confirmed that Dark Winds has been renewed for Season 5 as well, and production will be underway by April 2026. In fact, the season is slated for release in 2027 itself, so fans will not have to wait too long for an update after Season 4 concludes later this month.
The official logline for Season 4 reads as follows:
"Follows Leaphorn and Chee, two Navajo police officers in the 1970s Southwest that are forced to challenge their own spiritual beliefs when they search for clues in a double murder case."
Dark Winds follows the journey of two Navajo police officers as they navigate a double homicide in a small town. However, while they are doing so, they also have to come face-to-face with several fears and overcome personal challenges along the way.
Dark Winds has run successfully for three seasons so far, spanning over 20 episodes. Season 4 will bring this total up to 28 episodes after February 15, once the season is released for streaming.
Season 4 will see several returning characters, including the leading duo of Lt. Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee, portrayed by Zahn McClarnon and Kiowa Gordon, and Jessica Matten returning as Bernadette Manuelito. Previous seasons have seen several interesting guest appearances and cameos, including stars like Rainn Wilson, Jeri Ryan, and even George R.R. Martin and Redford themselves appearing in cameos.
Naturally, fans can expect similarly interesting guest appearances in the upcoming season, too.
If you want to catch up on the three previous seasons of the show, you can do so on Prime Video or AMC+.
