In the first season of the Marvel series, we see Matt Murdock pivoting after some major changes that took place in his life. In the aftermath of Foggy Nelson's demise, the law firm, Nelson & Murdock, began to dissolve. As a result, Matt then joined Kirsten McDuffie (played by Nikki M. James) as his new associate. She is a prosecuting attorney in New York who has switched to criminal defense practice.

Although the character of Kirsten began on a propitious note, she did not develop into becoming one of the key characters of the series. Rather, the character was found to be taking a backseat. Her presence was more subtle; she only remained inconspicuous in the major plotlines. This particular element did not allow Kirsten's character to grow or create possibilities for the viewers to realize her presence in this storyline.

This scatterbrained treatment of Kirsten's character made it feel poorly developed. In the Daredevil comic "Trial of the Century," she joined Matt in defending the case of Hector Ayala (White Tiger). But in the show, Kirsten was not given space to embody a one-of-a-kind presence. Consequently, the viewers were perplexed about the purpose of this character's inclusion in the storyline at all!

There is more to it, as the situation got more convoluted in the production of the series. Due to the process changes, it ended up with some episodes being remodeled, along with some scenes getting chopped. This aspect also might have cut short Kirsten's screen time even more.

However, the tables have turned in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. This time, the makers have made the conscious choice to broaden the horizon of Kirsten's storyline. Kirsten is now handed a proactive role, and we get to see her more. The series has released 3 episodes, and we're already seeing a big shift in Kirsten's arc.

As a consequence of Mayor Wilson Fisk's burgeoning dominance, Matt Murdock is compelled to vanish from sight and go underground. Now, Kirsten is left in charge of their law firm, Murdock & McDuffie. This make-or-break situation has delegated a leadership role to Kirsten.

Her storyline does not end here, as there is a subsequent subplot of a legal case involving Jack Duquesne, a.k.a. Swordsman. After he is convicted under the rigid state control policies of Wilson Fisk, Kirsten takes the case to defend him. In such a corrupt, rigged system, Kirsten gallantly defies authority as she resists the status quo in her legal practice.

In Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, we also get an insight into the moral compass of Kirsten. We learn about the character's integrity and fair-mindedness, as she rejects a job offer proposed by her previous employer, District Attorney Benjamin Hochberg. Keeping in mind the cause she is fighting for, she chooses to continue in her current workplace. In fact, she also joins forces with Karen Page and Daredevil to find the whereabouts of Fisk's prisoners, who are held secretly captive.

It is delightful to witness not only how Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is finally doing justice to Kirsten McDuffie but also how her character is also upholding justice for others in the storyline.
