Wonder Man turned out to be a surprise hit early this year. The Yahya Abdul-Mateen II-led solo Marvel series was surprisingly cancelled in July, despite scoring a season 2 renewal this March. Ford brought up Wonder Man co-creator Andrew Guest's TikTok post about the show's cancellation and fans' reaction to it. For the uninitiated, fans after Guest's post noticed that Marvel has cancelled two POC-led MCU projects.Abdul-Mateen has now added voice to this conversation through the Vanity Fair interview. He said:“I think the optics are obvious. If I’m a big business, if I’m Disney, if I’m Marvel, I don’t want to be attached to these optics.”The actor then went on to say what Marvel should do to avoid involved in these kinds of sensitive issues:“So, it should be a priority to change that narrative and to do what it takes to responsibly change that narrative with quality stories, with quality resources.”It seems Marvel has alienated not one but two POC actors by constantly cancelling their projects. But he also went on to say that he was never what the exact numbers were.Disney may have made a mistake by cancelling the Disney+ show because season 2 could've banked on Destin Daniel Cretton's name.
