Bridgerton Season 4 Part 1 dropped on Netflix on January 29, 2026.

The latest season of the period romance drama focuses on the second son of the Bridgerton family, Benedict, and his Cinderella love story with Sophie, a maid. The first four episodes are out, where Benedict has fallen for the masked woman he encounters at his mother's masquerade ball.

However, after meeting Sophie without the mask and not knowing she is the same woman, he makes a shocking and unconventional move and asks her to be his mistress. While Sophie does not answer him, more will be revealed in Part 2 of Bridgerton Season 4, which is set to premiere on February 26, 2026.

In a new Deadline interview, Luke Newton, who plays Colin, Benedict's younger brother, teases what will be his character's reaction to Benedict's offer and stated:

"I think Colin would be very shocked."

More on this in our story.

Bridgerton star Luke Newton talks about what he hopes would be his character's reaction to Benedict's unconventional offer

In Bridgerton Season 4 Part 1, Sophie is introduced as the maid who works under her stepmother, Araminta Gun, played by Katie Leung. Sophie's and Benedict's Cinderella love story begins when he first sees her at the masquerade ball, marvelling at the riches of the Bridgertons.

After rescuing her from one of the men at the ball, the duo shares a dance, but before Benedict can learn her identity, she leaves the ball. They again meet, but Benedict does not realise that Sophie is the Lady in Silver from the ball, and is also unable to resist her effect on him. Later, when she begins working for Violet, the duo gives in to their desire.

However, Benedict's request might create a rift between them as he asks her to be his mistress. To which Sophie does not reply, but leaves, offended by his words.

While we have to wait a month to find out what Sophie would say to this, Luke Newton has already revealed what his character's reaction he hopes would be when he learns about Benedict's demand. In the Deadline interview, Newton, who plays Colin and is married to Penelope, played by Nicola Coughlan, talked about this and said:

"I hope it’s as big as my reaction when I first read that moment and then first watched it. I love that, in this season, Colin just cannot comprehend the idea of having a mistress."

He further shared his own reaction when he read about the scene in the scripts and added:

"I remember reading those scenes and being like, ‘God’, I mean, obviously he’s against the idea, because he’s madly in love, but he just doesn’t even understand that that would ever be a thing."

Hannah Dodd, who plays Francesca, Colin and Benedict's sister, also shared that her character would also be shocked by what Benedict asked of Sophie.

While Benedict might have asked a shocking question of Sophie, which would further shape their relationship, Bridgerton Season 4 will also focus on Francesca's life, as Michaela's entry is expected to bring chaos.
