The official trailer for Yellowjackets Season 4 has been released. The upcoming season will be the fourth and final season of the series, expected to show us the last few months of the survivors' time in the wilderness and their eventual rescue.
The trailer introduces us to a third timeline, the time the group has been rescued. With three timelines running in parallel, the final season will reveal who else died and what happens to the adults that were still alive at the end of Season 3.
Yellowjackets Season 4 reveals the aftermath of the survivors' rescue
The Yellowjackets Season 4 trailer opens with a video of the teen survivors getting questioned after they were rescued. They summarize their time in the wilderness, saying:
"The plane crashed, our friends died, and the rest of us starved and scavenged. We prayed until they found us."
It is thus evident that the group did not share the gory details of what actually happened during the 19 months they had to fend for themselves. The person questioning them then asks if there is anyone else the authorities need to look for, but we're not told how they answer it.
The trailer then gives us a look at the survivors reuniting with their families and struggling to adjust to a civilized life. They are still haunted by their actions in the wilderness, the deaths, and the cannibalism. As Shauna says in the Yellowjackets Season 4 trailer, returning doesn't feel like returning home, hinting at the fact that 19 months in the wilderness has changed what home means to them.
Moreover, Van says:
"Everything that we saw, everything we did, we weren't supposed to leave."
They are being regarded as American heroes while all they want is peace. However, something jarring will happen after they come back home, making the transformation harder. The trailer also shows us that while still in the wilderness, the group killed one of them. Understandably, they don't want anyone to find out about it. In the present timeline, adult Misty and Taissa will plot against Shauna, while Elijah Wood will return as Walter.
The survivors will thus have to face their darkest secrets as they adjust to normal life. Yellowjackets Season 4 is expected to show us what happened after the group was rescued, what they are hiding, and what turns them into the adults we know.
The new cast members joining Yellowjackets Season 4 are Hilary Swank as an adult Melissa, Devon Sawa as Howard, Ken Marino as Russell, Dulé Hill as Detective Rollins, Molly Ringwald as Victoria Palmer, Jaylee Hamidi as Alex June, and Sam Braun as teen Jeff.
