“You don’t have to read the dash”: Seth Meyers jokes about Donald Trump renaming AI to Super Intelligence

Seth Meyers recently spoke about Donald Trump's idea of renaming AI as "Super Intelligence" on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Meyers started by saying that Trump spoke for forty minutes before the UN General Assembly, and during his speech, he also talked about officially changing the name of artificial intelligence to "Super Intelligence," which Meyers called:

"An idea so stupid, I can’t believe it didn’t come from AI."

Seth Meyers added that President Trump announced the name of AI would officially be changed to "Super Intelligence,"

"In other words, welcome to the new world of super intelligence, dash SI." Hey man, you don't have to read the dash. That's punctuation."

Meyers' comment came after Trump appeared to read the dash during his speech out loud, saying "Super Intelligence dash SI," where Meyers noticed the slip.

Why did Donald Trump rename AI to 'Super Intelligence'?

Trump told the U.N. that his administration is renaming artificial intelligence “super intelligence,” with U.S. government documents set to replace “AI” with “SI.”

During the UN General Assembly, which took place in New York on Tuesday, Donald Trump, speaking of AI, said that the United States does not support global rules that would control how AI is developed or used. He continued by saying that AI would officially be called Super Intelligence, because the word "artificial" makes it sound fake, even though he believes the technology is not fake and is "actually amazing." He also said that it is actually the opposite of what the word suggests.

Continuing his speech, Trump said that United States documents, and hopefully documents around the world, would use the term "Super Intelligence" instead of "Artificial Intelligence."

He added:

"In other words, welcome to the new world of Super Intelligence dash SI."

Trump continued by saying that Super Intelligence sounds better and is more accurate, and he would soon find out how much power he has to make the change.

Earlier this week, Donald Trump also shared a poll on his Truth Social account asking people whether they preferred "Super Intelligence" or "Superior Intelligence" as the new name. In the poll, Super Intelligence received 65% of the votes, while Superior Intelligence received 35%.

Last week, Trump shared another post on Truth Social about AI, where he said that the U.S. should support the growth of the industry instead of slowing it down. He said that he is forming an "AI Force," similar to the Space Force he created during his first term, adding:

"Which has been a tremendous SUCCESS, in my First Term."

He continued by saying that he will soon announce an AI "Czar" and described AI as the next Industrial Revolution or internet, saying it could have an even bigger impact on the country.

In addition to the post, Donald Trump also said that many people think the words Artificial Intelligence are "inaccurate, and very ineloquent, relative to AI." He further asked people to vote on alternatives like Superior Intelligence, Extreme Intelligence, and Supreme Intelligence.

In addition to Seth Meyers, other reactions have also come in after Donald Trump renamed artificial intelligence as super intelligence. On The View, Joy Behar and Alyssa Farah Griffin joked about the new name.
