HBO is coming up with an all-new comedy series, Youth with Sharon Horgan, who also created, wrote and executive-produced the series. Horgan has made a name with shows like Catastrophe, Bad Sisters, Motherland, and Divorce.

As for the story, the comedy series is about a 50-year-old divorced literary agent named Alex from London. She's trying to figure out what she wants from her life while also making room for dating and love.

What makes Alex' journey a little more challenging is that she is a teenage son to raise, has aging parents, and has a demanding career to deal with. Other celebrities who have joined Sharon Horgan in Youth include Rupert Friend, Sharlene Whyte, Aran Murphy, and Robbie Gee.

Additionally, the comedy series is also packed with other familiar faces in recurring roles! Explore the cast and character guide below!

Here's a look at the main cast and characters of HBO comedy series Youth

As mentioned previously, Youth has some of the most talented cast members who bring the characters to life. So, here are the main cast and characters:

1) Sharon Horgan as Alex

Sharon Horgan plays Alex. She is a 50-year-old divorced London literary agent at the center of Youth. She is trying to find love, sex and a sense of happiness again.

At the same time, Alex is also dealing with her teenage son, aging parents and work. Horgan also created, wrote and executive produced the series, making Alex especially central to the story.

2) Rupert Friend as Patrick

Rupert Friend plays Patrick, a 47-year-old single man from Scotland in Youth comedy series on HBO. He's a charming and carefree personality.

Patrick has never really had to think about settling down, long-term relationships or the pressure of a biological clock. Alex knows he may not be the easiest person to build a future with, but she is still very much drawn to him.

3) Sharlene Whyte as Sam

Sharlene Whyte takes on the role of Sam, Alex’s best friend as well as her boss. She cares about Alex and wants to see her happy, but she also has a practical side. Rather than encouraging Alex to chase complicated romances, Sam keeps trying to introduce her to older men she feels might be a better fit.

4) Aran Murphy as Ruari

Aran Murphy plays Ruari in Youth. She is Alex’s teenage son, who is struggling emotionally as he gets closer to leaving for university. However, he still depends on his mother for all major things, even as he is expected to become more independent.

When Ruari will overhear Alex talking openly about sex and dating, it will make him feel awkward and add humor to the story. This also explains the kind of a person Ruari is.

Robbie Gee as Frank

Robbie Gee is part of the main cast as Frank, a series regular whose character details have not been widely revealed yet. For now, his role remains less clear than those of Alex, Patrick, Sam and Ruari, but he is part of the central ensemble surrounding Alex.

Who are the supporting figures in HBO's Youth comedy series?

Apart from the main cast and characters in HBO's Youth, there are supporting figures like Harriet Walter who appears in the trailer while giving Alex some very direct medical advice. Anne Reid has also joined the cast in a recurring role. More details about who she plays have not been revealed so far.

Freddie Fox is another familiar in the comedy series. Like Reid, his character details are still being kept fairly quiet ahead of the premiere. But one thing that's confirmed is viewers will get a lot of humorous moments in the show.
