Beyond the Gates Daily Y.A.P.P for Tuesday, January 9th:
Welcome to the Beyond the Gates Daily Y.A.P.P. (Your After-Program Ponderings) for a quick — and by that, I mean you’re already halfway done — recap of the most amazing or what-the-heck-did-we-just-watch moments on today’s episode. Let’s get to it:
What Happened on Beyond the Gates

Now it’s been known that I’m not a huge fan of the characters Kat Richardson or Nicole Dupree for some time, right? Could you tell? Well, this time I’m genuinely surprised and pleasantly so by both of them, and I thought this is what I need to say in my Yapp today. Kat admits that the reason she is acting the way she is is because she can’t handle the knowing of whether she has the BRCA gene; she’s not like the rest of them that act tough and tout the “This is what a Dupree woman is” lore.

She is scared, fragile, and human. This vulnerability was amazing to see, and Nicole's reaction to the news that her sister carries the BRCA gene was a real gut punch, hitting a lot of us right in the feels. Closing the scene with Nicole and Dani in Dani’s bedroom, hugging tight on the bed was simply perfect. Sometimes what’s understood need not be said, and the wordless scene was better for it. Nicole was perfect as a big sister, and we saw the Nicole that I have been wanting to see for so long. Real, and not hung up on “What a Dupree woman is.” Just being a sister.
