Here's what went down April 3, 2026 on Beyond the Gates when the Duprees et al celebrated Easter, the Hawthornes got caught up, and Grayson just got caught.
What happened on Beyond the Gates
On Beyond the Gates, Vernon was surprised to see Anita dressed and ready to go to the annual Dupree Easter celebration. Anita said she was feeling a lot better and wanted to take part in the family tradition, so Vernon took her to the country club, where Hayley and Bill were also taking in the festivities. Hayley responded to Lynette's texts showing extravagances when she could, but she had to scramble when Bill announced that he was aware she had covered Lynette's exorbitant hotel charges. Bill let it go after Hayley lied that she offered to pay for treats for Lynette, but Bill was even more convinced that Lynette was taking advantage of his wife's generosity.
Anastasia sashayed past Nicole and Dani in the banquet room and again smirked about Samantha not being a real Dupree. Anita arrived on Vernon's arm and shamed the gossip for spreading hate on Easter. Vernon took Bill aside and thanked him for his willingness to function as the executor of Anita's estate should the worst happen. Bill could barely contain his delight at Vernon saying his service was a smart move.
That's what friends are for
Nicole introduced Kial to her various family members, who seemed to be impressed with her date. Andre and Kial found common ground over their travel-for-work experiences. Dani privately joked with Nicole that she had “hit 'next' on the playlist” in bringing Kial to the celebration instead of Carlton, her planned escort, whom Nicole had become angry with.
Ted led Carlton out of the country club, seeing he was upset by Nicole and Kial entering together – Carlton also seemed to be unnerved by the man running around in a bunny costume. Over drinks at Uptown, Carlton wondered if it was weird that he and Ted were talking about his problems with Ted's ex-wife. Ted waved it off, feeling he had evolved; he confirmed for Carlton that offering psychiatrist Nicole armchair analysis about her sexier persona had been a bad idea. Carlton remained hopeful that Nicole would choose him over Kial; Ted wished Carlton well, asking him to be better to Nicole than he had been.
Trife life
When Grayson told Ashley that he was going to spend the rest of Easter with his mother once he got off of work, Ashley suggested accompanying him so she could meet her, which Grayson deemed a good idea. Then, Grayson brought a supply of plasma to Jacob in a stairwell instead of the elevator, worried that Jacob had changed the location after not getting approval to. Jacob was more anxious about the possibility of being recognized in the hospital proper despite Grayson's warnings; neither knew that Lia was watching from one floor up.
Lia later demanded to know why Grayson had met the courier in a non-designated spot. Grayson claimed that “Rashad” preferred it, but Lia coldly reminded Grayson that it was she he reported to. Grayson paled when Lia menacingly said that there were consequences for screw-ups within the organization; there was always someone who would pay, she added.
Ashley felt deflated when Lia stopped by the nurses' station and looked to be paying her a compliment, only to flip it and deliver an insult. The nurse saw how glum Grayson was and assumed that Lia had lit into him as well. Ashley was confused when Grayson suddenly said that his mother wasn't feeling well and that it wouldn't be possible for them to meet that day.
Secret rendezvous
Back at the country club, Naomi desperately sent a text to Jacob, asking him to meet. Dani could see that Naomi was distressed about something and recruited Bill to join her in talking to their daughter. Naomi continued to lie that Jacob was away getting specialized training, but had to stop Bill from calling Elon to ask about it. Having heard back from Jacob with instructions to come to the same motel as their last encounter, Naomi beat a hasty retreat, saying that she wasn't feeling well, leaving Bill and Dani concerned.
Naomi fell into Jacob's arms at the motel, telling her husband that his absence – and her fear for his safety – was driving her crazy. Jacob explained that there had indeed been progress in the case and predicted that there would be a bust soon. Naomi hoped that Jacob could get away for their anniversary the following day; Jacob sadly apologized that he couldn't, but assured his wife that her belief in him kept him going. After Jacob suggested that they have a quick celebration early, Naomi agreed, and they made love.

Anita was pleasantly surprised to see her old friend, singer Jennifer Holliday, there at the country club. The performers laughed about how they'd met in a St. Louis diner while they'd been on dueling tours; Anita realized that Vernon had invited Jennifer to join them to brighten her spirits. After Anita gave an emotional speech to her family to thank them for their support during her cancer ordeal, she introduced Jennifer, who sang an inspirational song about hope and renewal befitting of Easter.
