Here's what went down Tuesday, April 7, 2026, on Beyond the Gates when Samantha got two letdowns for the price of one, Smitty was determined to get down one way or the other, and Anita busted Vernon.
What happened on Beyond the Gates

On Beyond the Gates, Eva nervously waited at the country club to have lunch with Izaiah and Darlene. Izaiah assured Eva that Darlene would be “cool,” but the moment Mrs. Hawthorne arrived, she antagonized Eva for blowing up Ted and Nicole's marriage and grifting Barbara's fortune out of Anita. Eva tried to explain that she had been raised hating Ted, and that she and Leslie hadn't even known they were related to Barbara until much later, but Darlene didn't want to hear it. Leslie overheard and sat down with the trio, heightening the tension.
Eva tried to highlight Leslie's funding of the clinic to impress Darlene, but all Leslie wanted to talk about was how she longed to replace Derek with Eva as the facility's manager. Darlene cut in when Eva referred to Ted as “Dad,” telling her and Leslie that they should be ashamed of themselves. After Leslie snarled that how she had come into her money was none of Darlene's business, Darlene took off, with Izaiah going after her. Leslie sniffed that Eva should forget “uppity trick” Darlene; later, Eva came upon Darlene pressuring Izaiah to steer clear of “the spawn of Satan herself.”
U got it bad

Samantha shared a meal with Donnell at Orphey Gene's, laughing about how Tyrell still couldn't dance after all the cotillion training. Donnell thought it was inspiring that Samantha had reconnected with her birth mother and thought that Samantha's involvement with the clinic and ChelseaKat easily gave her a crack at winning platinum deb. June watched the kids' chemistry from afar.
Donnell unwittingly hurt Samantha when he admitted that he'd always had a crush on Chelsea. After Donnell left, June acknowledged Samantha's interest in Donnell but advised her that the college boy was too old for her. When Samantha invited June to the ball, June became flummoxed and ultimately declined, sure her commonfolk appearance would be like “ketchup on crab legs.” Samantha sulked over her double whammy of disappointments.
Bounce out with that

Vernon witnessed Anita working on Dupree Foundation proposals; Anita thanked him for encouraging her to reclaim her life despite her cancer fight. As the marrieds kissed, Dani burst in, in crisis: she just couldn't bring herself to look at the proofs from her first photo shoot with Tatum Stewart and wanted Anita to peruse them with her. Anita caught on that Vernon had brought Dani in to babysit so he could leave for a meeting with Martin about his campaign; Dani and Vernon sheepishly admitted their plot. After Anita maintained that she could spend time alone and that her recent infection had been all cleared up, Vernon departed for Martin's, and Dani said that she truly was concerned about her pictures.
A lot had changed since Dani had been a model, she fretted, and there were now celebrities as well as regular people walking runways. How could she stand out? Anita recalled feeling the same way when she had gone solo after many successful years with The Articulettes and foresaw nothing but good things for Dani's second act...after all, success was in the Dupree DNA.
A boy is a gun

Martin read an article that said his congressional race was “neck and neck.” Smitty, though he had been busy, realized he had time for lunch with his husband – or satisfying another need. Martin also wanted to make love, but reminded Smitty that Vernon would be over any minute. Smitty understood and bolted when he got an urgent text from Jacob.
Alone with Vernon, Martin asked how he and Anita had managed to stay connected when he'd been chained to the Senate, and she had been on tour. Vernon shared that he and his wife had been resolute about making time for each other, even if it was only part of a day here and there. Martin got embarrassed when his grandfather brought up sex, but Vernon asserted that the spark only got hotter with the anticipation. Then, though the politicians were buoyed by the rise in Martin's polls, Martin revealed that he had been urged to increase security. Vernon sadly agreed these were the times they lived in.
In the alley, Smitty and Jacob discussed the woman Grayson had mentioned as his contact; Jacob hypothesized that the woman wasn't The Impaler, but a mid-level associate at best. Knowing that Jacob couldn't go near the hospital without being recognized, Smitty offered to snoop around for intel, but Jacob was against it, citing the danger Smitty would be putting himself in. When Smitty said he needed “this,” Jacob assumed his ego as a reporter was involved – Smitty countered that the case was stuck unless someone could “move the needle.” Jacob reluctantly consented, warning Smitty not to infiltrate Garland unless he had a plan first.
