Here's what went down Wednesday, February 18, 2026 on Beyond the Gates when Bill putting Joey on the case led to Randy, Carlton got dating advice from what should have been an unreliable source, and Grayson indulged his inner caveman.
What happened on Beyond the Gates

On Beyond the Gates, Ted and Shanice were still on their Valentine's date the next morning, with Shanice remarking that everything had been like a fairy tale except her run-in with Leslie. Ted was impressed with how Shanice had sent Leslie packing and offered to get Carlton to cover his morning so they could enjoy Shanice's day off together. While Ted called Carlton, Shanice saw Derek entering the diner with Tavia, a girl he had worked with at the fire station.
While Shanice watched, Tavia expressed surprise that Derek had asked her out instead of Sheryl; Derek said that he and Sheryl were better as friends. Tavia then launched into funny stories about the firehouse, which Derek enjoyed until Tavia slipped and mentioned the first responder who had replaced him. Ted returned to Shanice and sighed that he had to assist Carlton in surgery; she understood and took his offer to make things up to her later.
After Tavia got a text from her sister asking her to sit for her niece and nephew, she said her goodbyes to Derek, whom Shanice noticed looked uncomfortable. Derek admitted to Shanice that he had been doing his best to put his days as a firefighter behind him – yet Tavia was just going to be a reminder of the career he had lost. Shanice was sure a new job was out there waiting for Derek, who complained that the only prospect he'd gotten had come from Leslie. “Go for it,” Shanice advised, without hesitation.
“The woman is nuts!” Derek countered. Shanice wasn't in disagreement but reasoned that Leslie wouldn't be hands-on at the clinic – and besides, helping people was what Derek did, which made the clinic a perfect opportunity. The nurse added that Derek might want to give Tavia a chance as well.
At Garland Memorial, Ashley had a surprise for Grayson, who smirked that she had another closet quickie in-mind. Instead, Ashley handed him a color-coded binder listing other assisted living possibilities for his mother, since the facility she was in seemed to be subpar. Though both Grayson and Ashley were inclined toward the same option, Grayson became surly and called it useless, since he couldn't afford the place and his mom's insurance wouldn't cover it. Ashley wanted to help, but Grayson snapped, “When it comes to my mother, I got this.”
Later, Grayson came back and apologized for being a jerk. Ashley conceded that she had overstepped, but Grayson knew that it was in Ashley's nature to render aid – he just wasn't in the space to receive it. He berated himself for being a grown man who couldn't take proper care of his mother no matter how many side jobs or extra shifts he picked up. Ashley forgave him for taking his frustration out on her.
Nicole was worried by the sudden appearance of Dani, thinking something was wrong with her – or worse, Anita. Dani calmed her sister and gushed about the latest variety of Febreze she had in her office. Then, Dani hesitantly shared the news that she had seen Ted out with Shanice, but Nicole wasn't fazed by it. “You don't want to see a co-worker eating your leftovers in front of you!” Dani assumed. Nicole assured Dani that she really was fine with Ted moving on – plus, it was with someone she liked, and not Leslie.
Dani bragged about how she and Shanice had “read Leslie for filth” together, and Nicole said she would have loved to have been there to witness it. “Are we sure we don't hate her?” Dani still asked after Nicole confirmed that Shanice had always been “Team Dupree”; Nicole had no issues with Shanice and changed the subject to Dani's return to modeling. Though Dani continued to have some reservations about taking the runway at her age, Nicole declared that Dani was more beautiful now because she knew herself.
Marveling at Andre's support and how he kept giving without expecting anything in return, Dani noted that she and Nicole had family everywhere while Andre was lacking. Nicole intuited that Dani wanted her and Andre to become “couple friends” with Ted and Shanice, which Dani felt Andre needed. Nicole gave her blessing – but when Dani asked whether Nicole liked Carlton or Kial better, the psychiatrist declined to answer.
Nicole joked that she might be open to having a third man in her life, but Dani became concerned and warned her “Sissy” to protect her heart. When Nicole appeared certain that she wouldn't fall in love, Dani replied that she hadn't thought she'd fall in love with Andre, either.
At the nurses station, Carlton went to Ashley to reserve the operating room for his and Ted's patient, and they ended up discussing Nicole balancing him and Kial. Ashley had to admit that Kial had an edge because he was new, while Carlton came with expectations. The best thing Carlton could do, Ashley thought, was to make himself less available to Nicole so she'd be more curious about him.
Now alone, Nicole sprayed her office with Febreze and greeted Carlton when he arrived in answer to her text. She had been able to get tickets to a show by one of Carlton's favorite playwrights, and proposed taking him to the theatre that night. However, Carlton nonchalantly said he'd already seen the work and that he'd have to talk to Nicole later, since he had to prep for surgery. Once he was in the hallway, his resolve wavered and he looked ill at ease.
Hayley accompanied Bill to his office, adamant she do something to return to normal after her mugging. Bill pointed out that just the previous evening Hayley hadn't wanted to leave their hotel room, but she proclaimed that she was tired of being scared. Not to mention, the firm was populated with people she felt she could trust. Bill still wanted to personally bring Hayley's attacker to justice, but she waved the guy off as a “thug in a haystack” and promised Bill she wouldn't push herself.
With Hayley tending to her duties, Bill put in a call to Joey, who had heard about Hayley's mugging. Bill complained that the police had no leads in terms of the assailant and said he would be in Joey's debt if the casino owner could help find this man who had seemingly disappeared without a trace. Joey said that he would see what he could do.
Joey summoned Randy, assuming that Randy already knew about Hayley's attack because of the affair they'd supposedly been having. Though Randy protested he had only been kidding about that, Joey wasn't interested in the details – he was interested in how there'd been no news of a mugging happening within his territory, nor any evidence that Hayley's engagement ring had been hocked. Randy flashed back to Hayley admitting that she and Lynette had staged the mugging but remained stony as his boss decided that Randy was going to be the one to give Bill what he wanted by delivering the thief to Joey. After Joey left, Randy closed his eyes in disbelief.
Tomás found Hayley in the hall, relieved to see that she was all right. When Hayley dared not think of what would have happened had Lynette driven off even a second sooner, Tomás questioned why Hayley had taken documents to Ms. Wise relating to his case. Hayley became indignant when Tomás brought up that there had been protocols put in place after the firm's harassment suit, fuming that she was the “Mrs.” in front of the name on the building. All Hayley had to do was say the word, and Tomás could kiss his junior partner position goodbye.
Bill heard the raised voices, and Hayley complained that Tomás had just accused her of going rogue. Deciding that Hayley truly wasn't ready yet to resume working, Bill had Caroline take Hayley back to their hotel, then turned his annoyance on Tomás, telling him that Hayley shouldn't have to be protected in her place of business. Tomás had triggered Hayley by cross-examining her, Bill fumed, despite Bill paying him to make his life easier. Bill growled that he would hate to lose Tomás, who needed to learn to keep his mouth shut. Cowed, Tomás made his apologies and left Bill's office, about near tears as he placed a call and asked its recipient to meet.
