Here's what went down Wednesday, February 25, 2026 on Beyond the Gates when Tomás cancelled Kat's moving day, Elon's hard shell got soft, and someone celebrated a first anniversary.
What happened on Beyond the Gates

On Beyond the Gates, Tomás was confused by Kat's suggestion that she stay with him “forever.” Tomás reminded his girlfriend that she had turned down his previous offer for her to move in because she hadn't been ready. Kat revealed that she was about to be “homeless” with Chelsea and Madison about to be married; Kat cringed at the idea of moving back in with Nicole since she was in a “date all you want” phase. Plus, she wasn't keen on getting her own place. Tomás shocked Kat by this time being the one to say “no” – he felt that she was coming to him as a last resort.
Kat became agitated and said that Tomás didn't need to pretend he was serious about her in an effort to impress Bill now that he had been promoted to junior partner at the firm. Tomás assured Kat that he loved her; it was just that she was trying to take a step she wasn't prepared for because of her cousin's plans. When Kat came to the conclusion that their relationship was one-sided, Tomás countered that Kat might lose her sense of independence if they lived together too soon – and how would they handle it if she became pregnant?
Tomás had come to agree that the time wasn't right for him and Kat to cohabitate, and Kat relaxed and saw his reasoning. Kat decided she needed a place with thick walls so she could blast the crime podcasts she loved; though Tomás offered Kat a key so she could come by his place any time she wanted, he encouraged Kat to explore a listing she had taken a shine to. Kat called Vanessa to set up a viewing.
Eva was hip deep in preparations for the clinic at Orphey Gene's, asking Leslie if she had composed her letter of intent or gotten the facility's health certificate in order. Leslie was more interested in watching confrontations on social media, prompting Eva to huff that Leslie couldn't just open a clinic out of thin air. After griping that her financial partner Joey wanted nothing to do with the day-to-day operation of the center, Leslie announced that she knew someone who would be perfect for the position of general manager. Eva was dismayed when Leslie nearly begged her to work under her.
The younger Thomas didn't want to leave her job with Ted, though she consented to continue guiding Leslie for free. Leslie placed a call and got hung up on trying to finesse her way into obtaining a necessary permit, which Derek heard. When Derek listed all the things that would need to be put in place before a clinic could be opened, Eva was impressed and wanted to hire him, but Leslie scoffed that he had already quite rudely turned her down. Derek shared Leslie's distaste, saying that he didn't want to work for a woman who a year ago had been busy “mowing down innocent women like stray blades of grass.” Leslie reminded “Mr. Stop Drop and Roll” that no charges had been filed, then departed to go see Marcel.
“Is she like this all the time?” Derek asked. “Even in her sleep,” Eva deadpanned. Eva was used to her mother rubbing people the wrong way; Derek maintained that he neither liked nor trusted Leslie...but he conceded that he had no job prospects on the horizon despite his search attempts. This sounded to Eva like Derek was interested in the position Leslie had offered – Derek allowed that he needed the work, but his stipulation was that he could only have limited interaction with Leslie. He would only report to Eva. She met his demand and hired him on the spot.
At the hospital, Shanice gave Ashley a “#1” pin to mark her one-year anniversary as a nurse. Shanice was surprised that Lia, the chief of staff, hadn't commemorated the occasion herself. Ashley couldn't deny that the past year had been exhausting and all-consuming, but she decreed the job an honor and remarked how much it had made her grow. Shanice marveled at how far they had come in a year: now she was dating a doctor. Ashley acknowledged losing Derek but finding herself in the process, saying that true freedom came from trusting yourself. Shanice praised Ashley for blossoming without letting a man cloud her vision.
Derek visited the ladies at the nurses station; they were both thrilled when he told them he would now be functioning as the general manager of the Phoenix Street Free Clinic. Ashley was surprised, knowing that Derek wasn't anxious to work with Leslie, but he proudly said he had negotiated his way past that part of it.
Leslie sauntered into the squad room looking for Marcel, who was out. Unbothered, Leslie wanted Elon to step in and expedite the acquisition of her permit for the clinic. Elon eyerolled that she couldn't get a fire permit from a police station and instructed her to go through the proper channels instead of bothering him. Leslie grudgingly acquiesced but observed that she and Elon were practically family, since her daughter was dating his son. When Leslie crowed that Izaiah and Eva would be engaged soon, Elon sniffed that commitment wasn't one of Izaiah's talents.
Elon spoke to Jacob, thinking he sounded anxious. If the undercover assignment was too much for him, Elon said, he shouldn't let his ego get in the way of asking to be taken off it. Jacob held his ground, though Elon reinforced that Jacob needed to make it through the assignment safely. Just as Elon hung up with Jacob, Naomi walked into the precinct; Elon took his daughter-in-law into his confidence and requested that she plant a “seed” in Jacob so that he would give up the case. The police chief felt that Jacob would be better suited for something that intense in a year or two.
Naomi remembered Jacob telling her stories about how he'd run around with a notebook as a boy, writing down observations as a way of emulating his father. Elon smiled at the memory but still didn't feel Jacob had the necessary skills to handle himself in the field. Naomi understood the dangers of a criminal picking up on the fact that Jacob was a cop, yet she wouldn't be the one to tell Jacob he was in over his head. That, to Naomi's mind, was Elon's responsibility as Jacob's superior officer. Elon admitted he had given Jacob the assignment because he'd deserved a chance; Naomi didn't think that had been a good enough reason to put Jacob in harm's way.
In the alley meeting place for the blood plasma ring couriers, Jacob was approached by a stranger who asked him for a light...then took an interest in his not inexpensive watch. When Jacob pulled up his jacket so the man could see the gun tucked into his waistband, the man moved on. Jacob then texted Ren to let him know his contact was late – when suddenly Izaiah showed up in the alley.
Izaiah was offended when his older brother assumed he was back in the sketchy neighborhood to commit crimes, as he had done there as a teen. After Izaiah assured him he was only there to dine at a preferred Chinese restaurant down the street, Jacob let up and commanded Izaiah not to let Naomi know that he had seen him. Izaiah assented but warned Jacob to act like he belonged on the street so as to not give himself away.
Later, Izaiah ran into Naomi at the mall food court, having arrived there to meet Eva. Naomi sighed that she hadn't talked to Jacob; Izaiah recalled how he and his family had gotten used to Elon's on-duty absences but had always been worried about him. Naomi listened as Izaiah reflected that worry only muddled up reality – plus, Izaiah knew how much Jacob loved his wife and how he would move heaven and earth to return home to her safely.
Jacob's contact, “Smoke,” finally showed up, informing Jacob that deliveries had gotten off schedule – and that The Impaler had become “antsy” about it. Jacob carefully tried to get more information about the crime lord out of “Smoke”; unsuccessful, Jacob realized the importance of not getting on The Impaler's bad side.
Beyond the Gates airs weekdays on CBS and streams on Paramount Plus.
