Here's what went down Monday, January 26, 2026 on Beyond the Gates when Tomás realized his verbal agreement with Bill might not be worth the paper it was written on, Ashley wouldn't let Naomi be a hypocrite, and Nicole got her groove back.

On Beyond the Gates, Ashley waited near the nurses station at Garland Memorial for Naomi, who emerged from having seen a genetics counselor in light of inheriting the BRCA gene mutation that puts carriers at higher risk for cancer. Though Ashley felt that Naomi was in need of emotional support as well, Mrs. Hawthorne refused to inform Jacob of her positive test result because of the stress he was under with his undercover assignment. Ashley saw hypocrisy in Naomi's secrecy after she'd been pissed about Jacob keeping Derek's recovery quiet and outright said that Naomi's deceit had nothing to do with Jacob's job.

Naomi finally admitted that the conflict she'd had with Jacob over having children was still present in their marriage, and she implied that her knowledge of the BRCA anomaly now factored into it. She wanted to be able to make decisions for herself and her body regarding her cancer risk and was certain that Jacob wouldn't understand. Ashley took her bestie to her place to watch movies, but Naomi was worried that Jacob hadn't replied to her text – especially since Jacob had given her no information as to his case or its level of danger.

Kat was at Uptown awaiting Tomás to celebrate his promotion to junior partner, but Tomás had to meet with Bill and a client, and they were already late. Tomás promised to join her later; Kat then saw Ted entering, and she figured maybe she'd better talk to him due to the falling out they'd had over Eva. Tomás was impressed when Kat mentioned that her apologizing was not off the table.

However, before Kat could approach Ted, Shanice arrived and sat down with him; Kat was wide-eyed. Ted's conversation with Shanice was interrupted by work texts from Eva, and Shanice was surprised to learn that Eva knew about her and Ted dating. Shanice realized that was why Leslie had confronted her, and Ted called Leslie “delusional” for thinking she still had any claim on him. Ted found out that Leslie had rubbed their making love in Shanice's face and described the extenuating circumstances, but Shanice didn't feel that Ted owed her an explanation.

After Kat proceeded toward the table, she and Shanice exchanged compliments over shoes and earrings. Shanice invited Ted's daughter to eat with them – but then Ted received a summons from the hospital and had to leave. Once Shanice acknowledged how awkward it must be for Kat, watching her father out with someone besides her mother, Kat asked into their dating situation, which Shanice conveyed was relatively new. Shanice said she would stop seeing Ted if Nicole asked her to, which amazed Kat – though she was curious to know how Shanice was going to handle Leslie. Saying that her nursing background had taught her to be strong but kind, Shanice added that she would “show that basket case bitch who she's messing with” if it came to it. Kat decided she liked Shanice.

Tomás saw Nicole at the country club, and his girlfriend's mother congratulated him on his promotion. Then Dani burst in, announcing that she wasn't going to leave just because Bill was on his way to meet Tomás – who flashed back to seeing Dani and Bill kissing. Dani said it was about time that that “big lug” Bill had given Tomás his due; when Tomás replied, “No comment,” Dani smiled that lawyers certainly knew when to keep their lips sealed.

Once alone with her sister, Dani noticed the glow on Nicole's face and uttered, “Did you get some?” Nicole relayed how she'd been out with Carlton – and how they'd run into Ted and Shanice. Dani didn't like that Shanice was violating “the girl code” by going out with her co-worker's ex, but Nicole maintained that she and Shanice had no problem. Seeing Nicole's grin after asking what happened next, Dani smirked, “You had sexy time!” Nicole shushed her enthusiastic sib, not wanting the whole club to know.

Dani giggled when Nicole reported that making love to Carlton had almost been “too good.” Nicole was concerned that, because she and Carlton had known each other so long, there might be an inherent expectation of immediate commitment – which Nicole wasn't ready for. She was navigating what it was like to function without a man at her side; Dani advised her sis not to let anyone's idea of what was appropriate – including any preconceived notions Nicole herself might have – block Nicole from what she needed.

When Bill finally strolled in, Tomás went over case details – then expressed worry that Bill was playing with fire by dallying with Dani. Bill growled that Tomás being a junior partner didn't give him free reign to comment on his personal life, but Tomás was concerned that Bill's actions might impact his own upward mobility. After scoffing that Tomás had nothing to worry about, Bill recalled how entranced he'd been with Dani from the moment he had met her, and all he'd done was tear her down. He also found irony in the fact that he had begun falling out of love with her once she stopped being ferocious and tolerated his lies and affairs. Bill received word that the client was going to be even later, so he excused Tomás and sent him to celebrate with Kat. Meanwhile, Bill watched Dani in conversation with Nicole.

Later, Nicole was at home changing clothes, but she seemed dissatisfied by every outfit and accessory she put on. Meanwhile, Dani returned to the club in a different, revealing dress, which Bill noticed. He thought back to when he had bought her the frock and leered that he couldn't wait to take it off her – back in reality, he called Dani out for wearing it just to get a reaction out of him. Dani didn't clarify one way or the other.

Tomás joined Kat at Uptown, where they toasted to Tomás's promotion. Kat shared how proud she was of Tomás and told him about her surprisingly cordial chat with Shanice, whom Tomás remembered as having tended to his “injury.” When Tomás mentioned that his new position wasn't official, and that he only had Bill's handshake and not signed documents, both he and Kat feared for a moment that Bill might renege on the step up. But the topic was cut short when they saw a heavily made-up woman in a sexy, skin-showing dress take a seat at the bar...and it was Nicole.

Anita was in her living room describing how Sharon had sung for her during her chemo treatment when she suddenly fell into a dead faint. Vernon wasn't even sure Anita was breathing and had started to call an ambulance when she suddenly came to. Anita was adamant that 911 not be brought in, since the presence of paramedics would likely make the news, plus Leslie would find a way to use it against her. Vernon protested that, though they had been warned that the chemo might cause Anita to lose consciousness, they had also been told to report such instances to Anita's doctor. Anita swore she was fine and that she would tell Dr. Ahn about it at her next appointment, but Vernon got on his phone anyway.

Dr. Ahn dispatched Ted to the Dupree mansion, where he had set Anita up with an IV cocktail meant to alleviate the dehydration she had experienced as a result of the chemo. Vernon felt sheepish that Ted had rushed to help his former mother-in-law after the Duprees had done so much to shut him out, but Ted owned his mistakes and told Vernon that he still considered him and Anita family. Vernon was grateful when Ted made himself available anytime should Anita need further help.

With Ted gone, Vernon subtly encouraged Sharon to leave, but Anita saw through it and insisted that her friend stay. Vernon reminded Anita how worn out she had become the last time she had tried to entertain, prompting Sharon to be on her way – which infuriated Anita. The matriarch reprimanded Vernon for speaking on her behalf, and when Vernon complained that Sharon was supposed to have known how to take care of Anita during her chemo, Anita was appalled that Vernon was blaming her friend.

Vernon wouldn't let up, saying that he was the only one qualified to monitor Anita...but he soon broke down and admitted that he thought Anita had died. He was determined not to lose Anita; she said that might be unavoidable based on her condition. Anita was also certain that their loved ones would pull Vernon through should something happen to her, and that brought her comfort. But Anita stood firm that she needed to be surrounded by family and friends instead of Vernon shielding her from them. “Let me just be,” she implored her husband.
