On Beyond the Gates, Chelsea called Madison over to talk about the tension that had erupted between them when Chelsea downed a party drug in front of Madison at Uptown. Madison hoped that the partaking had been a one-time thing, but Chelsea replied, “Not exactly.” Chelsea maintained that Madison had been the only good thing to happen to her between her parents' divorce, her grandmother's cancer, the BRCA gene scare, and being stalked and kidnapped by Allison. Madison felt that Chelsea had exhibited a lot of strength through her trials, but Chelsea admitted that she was barely holding things together.

Swearing that she didn't want to go back to being a party girl, Chelsea said that she simply wanted to feel free at times and have fun when she felt like it. Madison didn't like the implication that she had been lecturing Chelsea and worried that the more careful, analytical person she was had suddenly become a problem for the former model. Chelsea recalled how everything she'd worn, eaten or said had been carefully monitored, and she'd rebelled out of a need to regain control; Madison noted that Chelsea had plenty of control now. The issue was that Madison saw Chelsea's spontaneity as carelessness, and Chelsea saw Madison's concern as judgement.

Madison said she loved Chelsea enough to walk away from her if she was making her feel caged. Chelsea reciprocated Madison's love and wondered why Madison didn't want to fight for them. Madison wanted things to work out between them, but when she thought things through, she kept coming to the conclusion that they weren't right for each other. Chelsea responded by announcing that she was ready for her and Madison to get married.

Though Chelsea insisted that her impromptu proposal was real, Madison felt that Chelsea had only suggested it out of fear of losing her – which Madison didn't think was fair to either of them. Chelsea cried as Madison gathered up her things and walked out.

At Uptown, Kat could not believe her mother was sitting at the bar in a slinky dress. Tomás yelped that Nicole looked sexy as hell – but backtracked that he was just appreciating the source of Kat's beauty. Kat had never seen her mom “sexy up” before – and she worried when Kial arrived and saw Nicole sitting at the bar alone.

Kial was intrigued by Nicole's reinvention and joked that the psychiatrist must be living a double life. Nicole said she had simply wanted a change; she had always been the good, rule-following daughter while her unapologetic sister had been a walking middle finger. Kial liked the “glow-up,” and the dynamic between him and Nicole became so charged that Kat could notice it from across the room. She Googled Kial and learned he was an orthopedic surgeon, which Tomás found perfectly respectable – but when Kat wanted to pepper Kial with questions, Tomás felt that Kat should let private moments be private and inquired into whether or not Kat was still holding out hope that her parents would reunite.

Kat insisted that fairy tale was over, but she didn't like Nicole's reboot, not when she was watching “[her mother] eye lock with a whole zaddy.” When Kat said that the change in her mom was a stress response to the divorce, followed by her mother having cancer and her sister carrying the cancer-amplifying gene, Tomás opined that Kat might be projecting. Kat didn't deny it but credited the fact that she was still standing to Tomás, who had been the one constant in her life of late.

Nicole was surprised that Kial hadn't asked her about a certain plastic surgeon at the hospital. Kial assumed that Nicole was talking about Ted, but she clarified that she was referring to Carlton, who hadn't been thrilled over suddenly having competition in Kial. Dr. Rollins didn't feel threatened, since, if Carlton was an actual threat, Nicole wouldn't be sipping drinks by herself. Nicole grinned as she confirmed that she was keeping her options open.

Andre, who had returned from New York, had just finished doing a little shopping for Dani at the mall when Hayley strode by wanting company, since Bill was again working late. Hayley commented on the expensive wine Andre had bought for Dani and revealed that she had only ever been able to indulge in box wine until she'd met Bill; she figured that the sophisticated Andre wouldn't be able to relate. The photographer relayed that his parents had indeed invested in vineyards, but that he also knew from gas station wines.

Hayley shared with Andre how her father had abandoned her before her mother had even given birth to her, and how her mother had died soon after. That was why she wanted a baby with Bill so badly, she continued – but Andre said he wasn't falling for Hayley's attempt to emotionally manipulate him into helping her keep Bill and Dani apart. Hayley spat that Andre would never have gotten a chance with Dani had she not come along – plus Dani still wanted Bill and had simply become better at hiding it since marrying Andre.

When Hayley advised Andre to keep romancing Dani or she would end up back with Bill, Andre blasted Hayley and told her to stay out of his business. Meanwhile, Bill had stopped Dani at the club and intimated that she had gone home to change into a provocative dress to get a reaction out of him. Vanessa approached and scoffed at the level of Bill's ego. Dani countered that she had plans with Vanessa and no idea that Bill was still at the club. When Bill leered that Dani had been hoping he would be there, Vanessa instructed him to go home to his trophy wife, so Bill left.

Vanessa wanted to be sure that Dani hadn't actually put on the clinging dress for Bill's benefit. Dani admitted she'd enjoyed the attention from Bill, particularly as she'd spent so much time trying to make him regret divorcing her. Vanessa reminded Dani that Bill was only about the chase – and when Dani received a text from Andre, who was home early, Vanessa encouraged Dani to scrap their girls' night to go be with her husband.

Dani returned home to find that Andre had set up a romantic scene featuring the fireplace and the wine. She asked Andre to tell her about his trip to New York and said that, next time, they would set the Big Apple on fire. Andre had only been away one night, but he proclaimed that was too long to wake up in a bed that Dani wasn't in. Dani had a confession – she had missed Andre as well, and more than she had expected to. This led to Andre carrying Dani upstairs to their bedroom so they could make love.

Bill was sitting alone in his bedroom when he got a text from Hayley, who was on her way home with some new lingerie she'd just bought. Immediately swiping to look at wedding photos of him and Dani on his phone, Bill thought back to when he'd apologized to Dani for hurting her and not honoring her while they were married. Soon, Hayley came in to find Bill in bed; she attempted to seduce him with a cooing “Let's go, big daddy,” but Bill emitted a loud snore. Hayley was disgusted and turned off the bedside light – and Bill's eyes opened, as he'd only been pretending to be asleep.

Joey lured Lance, the man who had harassed Vanessa, to the back room of the casino and allowed him access to the gambling available there. Talk turned to Vanessa, and Lance balked that Vanessa had dared to raise her voice to him. He was appalled that Vanessa was even allowed to do business in Fairmont Crest and assumed that Doug must be rolling in his grave. Joey abruptly grabbed Lance and told him he would kill him if he even thought about Vanessa again. Lance murmured his understanding and beat a hasty retreat.

Vanessa saw Lance's wife, Lolly, entering the country club and was surprised that Lolly would allow herself to be seen in public. Lolly regretted that Lance had blown up at Vanessa and was certain it had only been because of the humiliation of finding out she was hiring escorts. Based on how Lance had grabbed her wrist so hard that it had bruised, Vanessa wanted to know if Lance had been violent toward Lolly. The woman conceded that Lance had a temper, but that he had never been abusive; when Vanessa hinted at filing assault charges against Lance, Lolly assured Vanessa that Lance would no longer be a problem.

When Lance bellied up to the bar, Lolly chastised him for accosting Vanessa and warned him that his actions could come back to bite them. Lance took off; satisfied, Vanessa went to see Joey, who again saw Vanessa's bruise and vowed that she would never be hurt because of his businesses. Vanessa wanted to be sure that Joey had listened to her and let her take care of Lance herself. As she explained that she had threatened Lance with arrest and Lolly of social exile if Lance didn't leave her alone, Joey did not let on that he had already dealt with Lance himself.
