Here's what went down Thursday, January 29, 2026 on Beyond the Gates when Derek got extinguished, Eva wasn't in the mood for a double wedding, and Kat's meow stretched far and wide.
What happened on Beyond the Gates
On Beyond the Gates, Derek barged in while Ashley was talking to Grayson at the nurses station, not wanting to hear objections from the lab tech. “I could bench press three of you,” Derek squawked after demanding that Grayson move along. Grayson reminded Derek that Ashley wasn't his girlfriend anymore, but when Derek seemed clearly upset about something, Ashley offered to hear him out.
Ashley felt terrible when Derek reported that he had gotten his “fit-for-duty eval,” after which the recovering paraplegic had been forced to retire from the fire station. When Derek said that his spine would never be completely back to normal, Ashley swore that they'd “think of something.” They weren't together anymore, Ashley noted, but she still cared about Derek. Baldwin couldn't conceive of another job that would replace being a firefighter and acknowledged that he wouldn't be able to replace Ashley, either.
She advised him to think of what he'd loved about his job and then attempt to find something that offered similar fulfillment. Derek sighed that he hadn't even gotten to go out as a hero – it had all ended because he'd fallen off of his bicycle. Ashley encouraged Derek to live his life and gave him a hug...which the returning Grayson saw.
Chelsea, who was on a call with Bill, felt good about her latest purse designs but was nervous about her imminent video call with a representative from Fenmore's Department Store in Genoa City. Bill knew his daughter's products would speak for themselves and accepted further thanks from Chelsea for calling in his favor with fellow lawyer Michael Baldwin, who was married to Lauren Fenmore. Chelsea was surprised to hear Bill reciting some fashion facts; Bill admitted he had picked up a few from being married to one of the most beautiful supermodels on the planet. Hayley, having walked in and heard this, slammed Bill's office door.
Despite that, Hayley suddenly grinned that Bill had only been using Dani as a tool to continuing healing things with Chelsea. Bill assured Hayley that he had been giving Chelsea a pep talk, though Hayley was not unaware that, the night before, she had come home to Bill already being asleep – plus he had left the current morning before she had even woken up.
Hayley decided she didn't want to wait for Bill to make it up to her and began undressing him right there in the office, but Bill had some trouble catching his breath and excused himself to recover. “Val” used the moment to drop poison into Bill's coffee cup and hadn't quite stashed the bottle by the time he came back. He took a healthy swig as they talked about resuming their bedroom antics later at home.
At the country club, Vernon scoffed at an online article stating that “nepo-congressman” Martin would ultimately lose his election and end the Dupree political dynasty. Dani arrived and lamented that she hadn't shared her sister's interest in politics. Vernon beamed that Nicole and Dani's tight relationship had always given him and Anita comfort – and besides, Dani had broken ground by achieving her dreams of modeling; now she was staging her comeback. The patriarch was also happy that Dani had shaved off the dead wood that had been Bill Hamilton.
Later, Bill was so out of it that Vernon, determined to pass him, instead stopped to ask if he were all right. Vernon was not impressed with Bill's reminiscences about his first visit to the club, or Bill saying he had come to live for their squash games there. The two flashed back to a moment where Vernon had called Bill “son”; Bill wished he had been raised by Vernon instead of his own deadbeat father. In the present, Bill remembered that Vernon had been proud of him, but Vernon recalled the last time he'd taken Bill to the club...the night before he had announced his divorce from Dani.
Vernon was angry that Bill had known he was about to drop the bomb yet pretended that everything was normal. “You broke all our hearts,” Vernon anguished, calling Bill a liar and a disappointment. Bill confessed that he'd come to the conclusion that he'd made a mistake leaving Dani. “Damn straight you did,” Vernon retorted, making it clear that Bill would find no absolution with him. After Vernon stalked off, Bill received a text from Madison, who wanted to make a follow-up appointment with him.
At Uptown, Chelsea noticed that Kat wasn't focusing on their presentation for Fenmore's. Kat was dismayed that Anita had co-signed Nicole's sexy makeover, but Chelsea reminded her cousin that their whole brand was about empowering women. “How can you not want her to flex?” Chelsea asked. Talk turned to Madison; Kat was excited when Chelsea mentioned she had proposed to her girlfriend, but Chelsea bemoaned that she had asked Madison to marry her in the least romantic way.
Chelsea admitted that she had spontaneously blurted out her proposal as a pivot because it seemed Madison had been about to leave her out of fear that it was Chelsea's intention to return to her party girl ways. Kat asked Chelsea if she missed her “multiple choice love life,” but before she could answer, the cousins saw Dani escorting Izaiah to a table.
Izaiah was confused, as the only thing he and Dani had in common was their connection to Jacob. Dani offered Izaiah a gig that would make him more money than his academic advisor job could in a morning; Izaiah remembered he had almost ended up in jail once accepting a similar proposition. Seeing Izaiah's shock when she asked if he was all right with nudity, Dani clarified that she wanted him to be a model in her agency. Hawthorne laughed and thought that Jacob had put Dani up to it – plus, he wasn't runway material.
Dani disagreed and felt that Izaiah's face told a story. Perhaps he had used Banneker University as a “soft place to land” and an attempt to atone for his bad boy past – but she intuited that he hadn't received the celebration that he should have. The model-turned-agent handed Izaiah a card and put her hand on his arm trying to convince him; Kat eyed the move and told Chelsea, “your mom just felt up Jacob's brother.”
Afterwards, Dani came upon Kat offering to help Chelsea fix her proposal to Madison and hurriedly inserted herself. Chelsea corrected that she had made a “hail-marry-me” pass but had fumbled it; Dani said that honesty and kindness would go a long way toward repair. Kat wanted to know why Dani had been falling all over her son-in-law's brother; Dani giggled that she wasn't trying to bed him, she was trying to hire him. “Told ya,” Chelsea smirked.
Needing to take a moment to gather herself and figure out how to make things right with Madison, Chelsea traveled to the club for a spa treatment and saw Bill, observing that he looked like he'd lost his best friend. Bill replied that it was more like he'd lost the father he'd always wanted, and he went on to say he was bothered by how he'd screwed things up with Chelsea's mother. Chelsea remarked that Bill had been trying to make amends to Dani, adding that one had to take responsibility when a partner felt unloved or disrespected because of one's actions. Bill offered to help when Chelsea said she and Madison would end up like Bill and Dani if she didn't find a way to patch up their relationship.
At the mall food court, Lynette ran headlong into Hayley, who grimaced when Lynette attributed the accident as the stars aligning. Before Lynette could get Hayley's guard down, Hayley sauntered by and asked if Hayley had gotten her new friend off of eBay. Dani likened the unresponsive Lynette to an “AI bot” and accused Hayley of pulling gal pals out of Bill's legal docket when she learned that Lynette was a client. Hayley didn't think firm operations were Dani's business, but Dani jeered that they were, because the firm was part of the inheritance that belonged to the daughters she'd had with Bill.
Lynette finally spoke up, recognizing Dani and telling her she was the prettiest woman she had ever seen. Dani responded by warning Lynette that Hayley would soon have her hands all over something that Lynette cared about, then exited. Lynette saw Hayley's point about the claws being out in the DMV.
Eva came into Orphey Gene's late for a meal with Leslie, whom Eva found unusually chipper. Denying that she had done anything to the Duprees, Leslie flashed back to hiding her panties in Ted's hotel room. She told the suspicious Eva that she was on the verge of getting everything she wanted, which included locking down her man. Eva shuddered at the idea of her mother becoming serious with “Old Spice Hottie 'Shaft'” Marcel, but Leslie explained that she was just biding time with the detective until she finally had Ted for her own.
Leslie didn't care that Ted was with “ratchet candy striper” Shanice, calling her a mere “palate cleanser” for him. Eva wondered if Leslie had done something to Shanice after Leslie bragged that the nurse would soon be running away from Ted; Eva said that there was no AA for attempted murderers but exhorted Leslie to lean on her for support when she felt like doing something devious. Leslie was grateful to the good Lord for finally giving her her due, but she wasn't opposed to giving Him a nudge if needed. Eva took off after Leslie vivaciously suggested that Eva and Izaiah have a double wedding with her and Ted.

Kat found Izaiah at Uptown and tried to convince him to take Dani up on her modeling offer. Izaiah didn't want to turn his back on the years of work that had led him to his current position, but Kat put forward that he could donate all his earnings to helping kids if he wanted to. The reformed delinquent grinned that Kat had a talent for selling – when she wasn't playing detective with his older brother. Kat continued trying to persuade Izaiah to model...and Eva came in to see them laughing.
