On Beyond the Gates, Shanice remained upset that Ted had sent Nicole and Monica to work on her instead of being direct, but she decided to give their relationship another shot after Ted invited her to open up about her grief over Derek's death. Eva and Shanice developed an unlikely friendship by sharing memories of Derek. Monica wasn’t sure about leaving Houston to become the hospital's new chief of staff, but Vernon and Shanice convinced her to take the job temporarily.

Y&R's Victor Newman agreed to speak at Martin’s fundraiser, though Martin, Anita, and Vernon were worried about Martin's opponents discovering he had killed someone during the hate crime against Vernon. Anxious about Joey being involved in the cover-up he'd initiated, Vernon feared that Joey would betray their confidence, especially if he got himself arrested.

Tyrell slept with Jessica again, hoping it would convince her not to leave for college in L.A. Samantha celebrated her first work anniversary with ChelseaKat by being allowed to name their new purse design. Smitty warned Kat about the problems associated with her desire to start her own crime podcast, especially when she pitched that her first topic be about Lynette's disappearance. Leslie felt neglected by Eva and fretted that Eva wanted to spend time with everyone else but her.

Through flashbacks, it was revealed that Hayley had originally targeted Joey until Randy suggested Bill instead; Naomi had introduced Hayley to Bill and Dani, who inspired Bill to hire Hayley as his assistant; Bill and Hayley's working relationship had turned into an affair, prompting him to leave Dani; and Dani had hoped to talk Bill out of marrying Hayley and return to her. Between the recollections, Hayley bragged to Randy that Bill was finally being affected by her doses of poison.

Naomi feared Jacob would go undercover again to catch The Impaler. The police honored Jacob, who kept hearing gunshots in his head, for cracking the red market, but he hid the plaque in a drawer and bailed on his own ceremony. Though Darlene managed to force herself to be nice to Eva at Izaiah's forceful instruction, she nearly came to blows with an antagonistic Leslie.

Ashley refused to forgive Grayson. Naomi thought Ashley was penalizing herself for not giving Derek another chance after his paralysis lie and reminded her that Grayson wasn't the only man who had deceived her. Observing both Ashley and Jacob's behavior, Naomi theorized that they were struggling with survivor's guilt.

Jacob wanted Smitty to use the the follow up to his article about the red market to lure The Impaler out of hiding. Joey had to explain to Izaiah and Vanessa that he'd had nothing to do with the ring or the resultant shooting that had killed Derek. When Joey finally faced The Impaler, he was shocked to learn who it was, exclaiming, “You!” in recognition.
