Here's what went down Friday, June 5, 2026 on Beyond the Gates when Martin's past wasn't, Ashley heard what she didn't want to hear, and Genoa City began its move toward the DMV.
What happened on Beyond the Gates

TIDE WATCH: 1
On Beyond the Gates, Vernon placed a call to infamous business tycoon Victor Newman (the patriarch of the Newman family on The Young and the Restless). The Genoa City, Wisconsin, powerhouse was glad to hear from his old friend Vernon and happy to back Martin, having always liked his politics. After they hung up, Anita sensed that Vernon was hiding some big news, smirking that the last time he went silent, their daughters thought he was having an affair. Vernon excitedly revealed that Victor was not only attending Martin's fundraiser – he had agreed to give the keynote speech.
At the brownstone, Martin was working with his assistant, Shonda, on seating arrangements and mentioned that he knew one attendee, Kyle Abbott, from the time they'd each spent time in New York. Smitty came home and advised Shonda not to seat Victor next to Kyle's father, Jabot Cosmetics bigwig Jack Abbott, as they had a long-standing feud that had been written about in Ruthless (an unauthorized biography about Victor that came out in 1988!).
Smitty announced that his editor had liked his first submission of his red market story so much, he wanted Smitty to make it a five-parter – meaning he would be spending every waking moment working to meet this new deadline. Both Martin and Shonda were fearful that Smitty would back off coming to the fundraiser, but Smitty assured them that he'd be there...even if he ended up cutting out early to get back to work.
Sorry, blame it on me

Jacob and Naomi lolled in bed. Though they wanted to stay there the whole day, Naomi conceded that she had to check in on Ashley, who wasn't doing well. Jacob was still having trouble making sense of Derek's death – Derek wasn't supposed to be at the warehouse, and Jacob could still feel his best friend's blood on his hands. Naomi opined that Jacob wallowing in guilt dishonored Derek's memory; Derek had made his own choice in following Grayson, and they had to make sure that his sacrifice wasn't in vain. Jacob swore to do right by Derek by bringing down everyone in the blood plasma ring...including The Impaler.
A morose Ashley slipped on a hoodie next to a container of Tide pods, then answered a knock at her door, assuming Naomi had arrived. Ashley was none too pleased to see Grayson, who knew he couldn't take back what had happened but hoped to ease Ashley's suffering. He invited her to vent at him, and she did briefly, calling his attempt at self-deprecation pathetic. Not denying it when Ashley accused him of staying silent about his illegal dealings because he was afraid she would dump him, Grayson also added that he'd been trying to keep her out of danger. Ashley didn't care; Derek was still dead, and nothing Grayson said was going to change that. When Naomi finally did show, Ashley sent Grayson on his way.
Naomi wondered why Ashley had even let Grayson in if she was truly done with him. Was Grayson really irredeemable, Naomi mused, or was Ashley just not willing to give him the second chance she hadn't given Derek? Ashley was appalled and said that Grayson's lies had been far worse than Derek's, but Naomi countered that Derek had been reckless in going to the warehouse to play hero, which was neither Grayson's fault nor Ashley's. Naomi went on about how Ashley's misplaced guilt and attempt to punish herself would not bring Derek back.
At Orphey Gene's, Grayson lamented to the arriving Naomi that he was back in a financial position where he needed a “side hustle” to keep his mother in her care facility; Grayson mentioned that Leslie had offered him a job at the clinic, but he'd turned it down, not wanting to steal from Derek's life. He also swore that he hadn't gone to Ashley's apartment to pressure her into forgiving him. Naomi said that both Ashley and Jacob were dealing with survivor's guilt, and that it was coloring everything they did and said. Meanwhile, Ashley thought back to her first date with Grayson and when he came to her bleeding from his stab wound.
Jacob visited Smitty, who was disappointed that there were no updates on the red market case. After Jacob explained how both Lia and Ren had been cooperating with officials but were unable to lead them to The Impaler, Jacob and Smitty worried about the crime boss being able to expand to other cities unless he was stopped. Smitty didn't like Jacob's suggestion to write an article besmirching The Impaler's reputation in an attempt to smoke him out, but he was willing to ask the public for any information they might have that would bring him out of hiding. Jacob was desperate to get justice for Derek by putting an end to the ring once and for all.
Down low (nobody has to know)

Martin went to the Dupree mansion to work on his fundraiser speech with Vernon and was thrilled to learn that Victor Newman – who had supported Vernon in his first senatorial campaign at a time when no one would take a chance on a Black candidate – would be headlining the event. After Anita reported with amazement that Anastasia Belleclaire, of all people, had donated handsomely to Martin's re-election bid, Martin was hopeful that all the big money coming to him would jump-start his stalled poll numbers, which led Martin to thinking about his own Senate run again. Vernon brought Martin back down to earth by reminding him that opposition research could still dig up the fact that Martin had killed somebody while protecting Vernon during the hate crime perpetrated against them, and that the Duprees had covered it up.
Anita and Martin both felt that Bill, Elon, and Marcel would remain quiet because they had too much to lose – but Vernon held firm that Joey, who already had a bad reputation and had more than once tried to insinuate himself into Martin's campaign, could still cause trouble. Martin didn't like that Vernon had gone to Joey to take Martin's debt upon himself; Vernon defended his actions by recalling that he had been the one to bring Joey into Martin's life.
Vernon somberly went on that there had been rumors about Joey being connected to the blood plasma ring – and if Joey were to be arrested by the Feds, Vernon predicted, he could squeal about Martin's secret, or at least lean on the congressman to bail him out. Anita reined in the speculation, wanting to focus on the present, so Martin produced his draft of his speech about leadership and making the right decisions when the time came and read it to his grandparents.
State of shock

Joey nervously quizzed Randy about the extra security they had installed at the casino; Randy bragged that he had turned the place into a fortress. When Joey called The Impaler chaotic and dangerous, Randy said it wasn't too late to call off their meeting, but Joey wanted to look the ringleader in the eye and tell him to avoid from his turf.
Vanessa walked in, hearing the part about The Impaler, and was annoyed that Joey had never told her about the conference, since they were partners. Joey refused to let Vanessa stay for the meeting and instructed Randy to carry Vanessa back to his condo if he had to. Vanessa stormed off, with Randy not far behind.
At Joey's place, Vanessa huffed that Randy didn't need to stay, since there was security outside the door. She began talking about how they'd known each other long before either had met Joey, and how Randy had been Doug's connection to his childhood in Philadelphia. Randy smiled that he was proud of Doug for making it out of their poor neighborhood, and Vanessa brought up how loyal Doug had been. Citing that loyalty, Vanessa continued that one of them had to be at The Impaler meeting to watch Joey's back – she couldn't leave, but she also couldn't bear to lose another man she loved. Randy agreed to head back to the Lakeview.
After Joey reprimanded the security head who had let Vanessa slip by and confirmed the code word “scarlet”, which they'd be using with The Impaler – a total stranger – Randy returned, to Joey's initial annoyance. Once Randy affirmed that Vanessa was being watched, Joey relented and said he was glad Randy was there. Having hidden weapons in various spots around the casino's back room, Joey looked stern as he heard the awaited knock on the door. But when it opened, his expression changed to one of surprise...and he uttered, “You!” in recognition.
Tune in next week when Leslie bulldozes her way into Martin's fundraiser, Y&R's Abbott clan joins Victor and Devon at the country club, and a tornado puts both Fairmont Crest and Genoa City lives in danger.
