Here's what happened on Beyond the Gates on Monday, March 23, 2026, as Bill and Dani shared an emotional moment, Vernon gave Anita some advice and support, Joey comforted Vanessa, Smitty and Jacob were at odds over their investigation, and Samantha learned about June's past.

What happened on Beyond the Gates

On Beyond the Gates, Bill went to see Dani, still rattled by seeing the ordinarily fiery Anita so quieted by chemotherapy. Dani knew Bill was thinking about his own mother's deterioration, and the exes reminisced about the party at which they had met decades earlier.

Bill also shared his fear about Dani carrying the same cancer-causing gene variant as Anita, though both he and Dani heaved a sigh of relief that neither of their daughters had inherited it.

Later, at Bill's office, he was too distracted to work, and he and Caroline talked about how, despite the power Bill possessed, there wasn't anything he could do to relieve Anita of her cancer.

Pal Joey

Joey comforted Vanessa, who was upset about Deanna's lack of contact, but Vanessa took Joey's gesture as a sign he wanted to break up. Vanessa felt better after Joey promised he wasn't going anywhere, crediting Vanessa with re-opening his heart after his wife had cheated on him.

Vernon's support

Anita shook badly enough from her chemo that she couldn't hold her tablet to read poetry. Vernon tried to help, but Anita's skin was so sensitive from a burning sensation that she didn't want to be touched. Anita declared she was done with tests and medications, prompting Vernon to blurt out that he was tired of his wife's defeatist talk.

Anita just wanted to be sure that Vernon wouldn't give up on living himself if she were to succumb to the disease. Vernon swore that he'd always carry a piece of her no matter what happened, but implored her to go to the hospital instead of trying to tough out chemo's side effects on her own. Anita refused.

The Max factor

Smitty, who felt guilty about keeping secrets from his family, met with Jacob; the detective was still determined to prove himself to his father by staying on the blood plasma ring case. When Smitty learned that their insider, Max, had nearly been stabbed to death, Smitty felt guilty for pushing Max to stay in the organization. Jacob, posing as “Rashad,” struggled to keep his composure when Ren told him that the only way out of the syndicate was in a body bag. Smitty insisted that he and Jacob back out of the investigation; Jacob released Smitty but chose to stay in, citing how close he was to making a bust.

Cinderella Liberty

Samantha showed June photos of the cotillion dress she had chosen; after learning that June had never had her “Cinderella” moment, Samantha texted Tyrell with the idea of inviting their biomom to the ball. Hearing about how well the clinic was doing, June decided she wanted to pay Naomi and Jacob's kindness forward by volunteering at the facility. June didn't notice when Ren took a seat at the diner.
