Here's what went down Tuesday, March 24, 2026, on Beyond the Gates when Grayson was put to the test, Kat's resolve was shaken, and Monica fought Anita's fight for her.
What happened on Beyond the Gates

On Beyond the Gates, Grayson brought Jacob another supply of blood plasma in the elevator. Jacob told Grayson that Ren's goons had men outside the hospital ready to finish Max off. Trying to get in to see Max, Grayson made Shanice suspicious. The lab tech managed to get Max alone and apprised him of a back entrance he could use to evade his pursuers...but Grayson said he would see to Max's demise himself if he ratted Grayson out.
Later, Grayson was surprised to see Ashley still working after she'd pulled an overnight shift; when the nurse sighed that Lia had gotten on her case about improving her care, Grayson cryptically said he knew what it was like to keep the boss happy.
Smitty met Jacob in the alley, dubious that Jacob had let Grayson know about Max. Jacob reasoned that what Grayson did with the information would prove his intentions one way or the other. Once they heard Max was safely out of Garland, Smitty wanted to personally take Max to a safe place; Jacob tried to dissuade Smitty from remaining involved, but Smitty still felt responsible for Max getting hurt.
Grayson found Jacob, insisting that their partnership was over and worrying about what would happen if Max squealed on him. Jacob was certain that Max would keep quiet and reminded Grayson that he had gotten into the blood plasma ring to help his mother. Grayson was shocked that he had threatened Max with bodily harm and didn't agree that he and Jacob needed to rely on each other; Jacob was surprised to learn that Grayson had been in the organization for a year. The detective pumped Grayson for intel on the inner workings of the syndicate, but all Grayson could reveal was that he only ever communicated with one person by text. Jacob didn't believe Grayson and mused to Smitty that Perez had to have interacted with someone in person during his months as a smuggler.
So in love with two

Vernon watched Anita sleeping fitfully, but when she woke up in worse pain than she had been in the day before, he was emphatic that his wife should check herself into the hospital. Anita protested, worried that she might never leave the facility, but when Vernon wouldn't take no for an answer, she finally relented.
Nicole and Dani got caught up at the country club, discussing Kat helping Vernon out with Anita and how rattled Bill had been to see Anita's deterioration because of his mother having been worn down by depression. Dani brought the conversation around to whether or not Nicole preferred Kial or Carlton; Nicole confessed that, on intellectual and physical levels, she would choose Carlton, but also that there was something about Kial that had her leaning toward him. The sisters' lightheartedness was shattered by Vernon's call; Dani and Nicole rushed right over to the hospital upon learning that Anita had been admitted.
Reach out and touch somebody's hand

Kat spent time at Orphey Gene's with Tomás; while she conceded that watching Anita's struggle for herself had been gut-wrenching, she was also happy that her grandmother was letting her in enough to allow her to help. Tomás watched Kat's demeanor change when Nicole called with news of Anita's hospitalization, and when Kat lamented that she could have prevented it, Tomás assured her that there was nothing else she could have done. Tomás held Kat as she feared that Anita might never come home.
Fight the power

At Garland, Shanice taught Anita how to breathe through her waves of pain, but she was startled when Anita demanded to sign a do-not-resuscitate order. Shanice approached Monica, whom Anita had brought in as a consultant on her case, concerned that Anita only wanted a DNR because of how much pain she was in. Though Monica cautioned that Anita's ultimate wishes would have to be respected, she consented to have a talk with Anita and make sure she was making her decision clearly.
When Anita whimpered that she couldn't take another day of the side effects, Monica worked to convince her patient that she would eventually turn the corner, even if the pain got worse first. Monica did find Anita's level of agony unusual, since pain wasn't usually associated with the type of chemotherapy Anita was on; Anita divulged that she had taken her associated inability to sing as a sign that she was done. Monica rallied Anita not to underestimate herself – she was Anita Dupree, and there were still other medicines they could try, all of which could buy Anita time, even if they ended up not being able to stop her from dying of cancer; the oncologist nearly begged Anita not to sign the DNR without weighing all of the options.
At the nurses' station, Vernon confided to Dani and Nicole the true amount of discomfort Anita had been experiencing. He could tell that Anita was starting to give up and stated that he was beginning to align with Anita's viewpoint. When Vernon finally got a chance to visit Anita, she notified him that she had made some choices about her future.
